Name changing/honeymoon

Lizzy, on May 30, 2017 at 3:18 PM Posted in Married Life 0 21

Hi everyone I just have a quick question, we already planned and booked the flight and hotel for the honeymoon in my name but after the wedding my name will be changed. I'm just confused on what I should do now, because my i.d. Will be different. Any advice will help (:

You're changing your name before your honeymoon? are you not going right after the wedding?

Wait to change your name until after the honeymoon. This way your ID will match your travel documents.

Is you honeymoon not right after the wedding?

If not, you will need to call customer service for anyone affiliated with the honeymoon plans to change your name over (flights and hotels too if international-all the hotels in Europe we stayed at asked for copies of our passports).

If you are going right after the wedding-it should all be booked in maiden name since you wont have to time to change immediately. And just FYI it takes awhile to get all that stuff done. I'm over 2 months in and have only gotten my SScard and DL changed...still have to do passport, banks, and all that.

How long after your wedding is your honeymoon? Why not just wait until after your honeymoon to change your name. Also, I don't know where you are from but if you are just talking about an ID vs Passport, most places let you keep your old one so you can just use the old one. It is still valid in many cases. Can you be more specific about why this will be a problem?

Best to wait until after your honeymoon to change your last name. As others have mentioned, it takes a while and you don't need that added stress. My honeymoon will be 3 weeks after our wedding day and I'm definitely waiting until after to change my last name.

Wait until after your honeymoon to change your name. Or if you like to live life on the edge, go ahead and change your name and just use your passport with your maiden name for the flight.

Why didn't you book your flight/accomodations under your married name? You will either have to wait to change your name until after the honeymoon or see what it will take to change the flight information.

It's really important to remember: getting married is not the same action as changing your name. It's a process you have to initiate after you get married if you want to change your name. It's separate.

The safest thing to do would be to wait until after your honeymoon to start the process of changing your name.

I would wait until after the honeymoon to change your name. You'll need to have your id for the flights match up with the name on your tickets.

In most states you will need the certified copy of your marriage license to do any name changes. Our copy did not come in the mail until about two weeks after our wedding so all of my travel information still had my maiden name when we went on our honeymoon.

I didn't even think of this! shoot.... we're not leaving for our honeymoon until 4 months after the wedding! ):

ETA: Can you book them under what will be your married name? even if it isn't your legal name just yet? I'm actually curious as to how that works?

I got married in march - and have most things officially changed - but still haven't changed my passport, or all of my credit cards. It's not a quick process.

Raina I would book under your maiden and not get it changed until after. It's a giant pain and could take time before you get the necessary documents.

@Lizzy - there's no time limit on changing your name. I work for the register of deeds office; we issue marriage licenses. I had one bride tell me she would change her name when they started having kids. That could have been 9 months later or 9 years.

Definitely wait. We're not going on our honeymoon until 2 1/2 months after the wedding and I'm still going to wait to change my name.

I'm struggling with this same thing! We won't be going until 4-5 months after our wedding for our honeymoon but I worry about how long everything will take! My main concern is changing my passport over because idk how long that typically takes! We haven't booked anything yet but when we do if I am going to change everything over we will be booking in my married name so we don't run into that issue
