Navigating a gay wedding in the south

Michael, on March 12, 2021 at 12:25 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8
We are trying to plan a wedding, but are realizing that some things don't apply to us. Like wedding dresses! But now we have to navigate planning with two men. It seems like no one in Louisiana knows what to do.

You have to get creative and plan the wedding you want. Do you have amy specific questions or issues with getting products/services in Louisiana?

I’d try searching for LGBTQ-friendly vendors in the area. You should be able to find some with a google search!

    Congrats and welcome!

WW ONLY lists vendors that are inclusive and LGBTQ+ friendly (if they are not, please report them)! There should also be lots of great stuff under the "Ideas" tab.

So, we had a cishet wedding, but we took a look at traditional weddings, and then adapted them to suit our taste.

As you said - no wedding dresses for you.... but, would you prefer to rent tuxes, or splurge on custom suits for yourselves? (DH regrets renting, he looked *fantastic* in his tux, and wishes he had bought it.) Do you want flowers? Or another kind of decor? Formal or casual?

This wedding is about you two, so whatever makes you both happy is the right way to do it.

Just be sure that it's about the two of you. Look at aspects of "traditional" weddings and incorporate the things you want - first look or no, personal vows or more traditional, instrumental or with lyrics, live or recorded - the world is your oyster Smiley smile

Include things the two of you are interested in - Disney, video games, books, whatever. We included a little bit of Disney, someone on here had baseball included, someone else had a sword fight. The world is your oyster.

Just make sure you have delicious food and drinks (and plenty of them - no one should want for anything at your wedding) and that people are comfortable (a chair for every butt).
