nc covid mass gathering laws

Molly, on July 18, 2020 at 7:10 AM Posted in North Carolina Planning 0 16
Hi all,

Our wedding is planned for October 10th at an all outdoor venue. Does anyone know the laws as to how many guests can come? I've concluded that there are no restrictions for the ceremony, but I've seen mixed answers about the after party. Some say no more than 25 for an outdoor celebration and some say no more than 50% capacity.
Your comments are greatly appreciated!! Hang in there everyone! Smiley smile

When's your wedding? We just talked to ours today and they are in the 25 and under category right now Smiley sad. We're going to wait to make any decisions until the new announcement in August. I'm very curious what other vendors say.

Have you talked to your venue about this? I know we might be moving into phase 3 by the end of July, which will extend the amount of guests you can have. However, if everything is outside, I am not sure how you would be affected.

I would talk to you venue. They should know exactly how many people they are allowed to have at events.

Yes I did and they said no more than 25 as of now. I'm still confused a little since I still hear of wedding receptions with more than 25 happening, but maybe they're classified as something else.

I have heard some in NC doing more than the 10 indoor 25 outdoor but per our governors orders that’s the current limit. We were supposed to have ours Oct 3 however our venue has decided based on the restrictions not to hold any events until after that date so we have rescheduled to 9.18.2021

Any follow up from your venue? I was at a wedding (in NC) yesterday with 120 guests. So it can definitely be done. Maybe it is just at the venues discretion?

Where was the venue?! I honestly think there is such a gray area for where the law can be applied. Our venue said they're following the law, but I've heard of other venues having larger weddings, so Im not sure.

It was north of Charlotte. Staff was masked. Food was served as a plated meal. Hand sanitizer was on the table and there were sanitation stations throughout the venue. Guests were provided masks as well. So they were taking precautions, but definitely running at full capacity.

It depends on the venue and how they are interpreting the orders. Religious and spiritual gatherings are exempt from the Governor's orders in NC. So if you consider what your event a spiritual/religious gathering, my understanding is that it is then exempt from the mass gathering limit (which, for non-religious/spiritual gatherings is 10 indoors and 25 outdoors now extended until at least Sept. 11 2020).

Yes, I've learned it depends on the venue. If it has a restaurant or winery, some are able to go by the 50% capacity rule. Otherwise, most are having to go by the 10 indoor/25 outdoor rule. There is so much gray area so a lot of venues are interpreting it differently.
