85 percent of our guests will be traveling from out of town, so we will send save the dates to get an idea of how many will be able to come.

We will be sending save the dates because we are hearing a lot of talk about weddings in the same year and season as ours so I want to get our date out there in people’s heads lol

My wedding is in about 6 months and I’m sending Save the Dates to some guests, ones that maybe don’t know for sure that they’re invited to the wedding. I was waiting , hoping to send photos from our engagement session but our photographer can’t get us in until May and the wedding is in August. So I ended up ordering save the dates from Vista Print.

I know there's like an official time when you're supposed to send invitations, but I'd rather just send them uber early. People get it on the calendar and I get a head start on rsvps. I probably need to hassel a few people anyway for responses later.

If you are having a destination wedding, or a wedding during a holiday, then necessary. If not, no.

For us they are necessary, almost all of my guests are from out of town so they need to know ahead of time. I'll be sending them out next month! I'm nervous to send them because it makes it official!!! lol.

They aren't a necessity but I love the ones I made and sent out.

Not necessary if you’re my age, been with your fiancé for as long as I have been, and are having an incredible intimate ceremony with your closest family and friends (less than 40 attendants).

I think it depends on your situation. We have a lot of people coming from out of town, so it was helpful to get on people's calendars earlier rather than later.

We’re getting married at my in-laws brand new house. Everyone knows the date of the wedding and everything. So, I don’t think it’s necessary for me specifically, but for many others definitely!

Not necessary. My fiance is in the Navy and we weren't positive if our date would be possible due to him being on deployment. Between us and our parents we were able to tell everyone we wanted to invite our wedding date. This was easier and cheaper incase things have to change if he won't be back yet. Plus I shared our wedding website with family and told them to find the date there instead of Save the Dates.

Ha! Our engagement will have been 7 months long but we crammed in save the dates anyway. Helps that I sketched them out long before he proposed Smiley sexy

As I was sending mine I hated it but we have people that have to fly and want them to be able to get their flights and hotel early. That's why a wedding website is helpful. We put a link for it on the STD and hopefully they'll figure it out from there.

I wanted to, but thankfully did not. Our date and location changed. Instead I have created a social media group to get the date out while invitations are forthcoming. If you have a destination wedding or a holiday wedding, STDs are a must.

Not neccassary. Anyone who is close to me and my fiancee got told when and where the wedding is and word got spread by family to the rest.

I have about 10 months to plan the wedding and my first focus was on the wedding date and venue. Because I had this planned so far in advance, we are sending out our invitations around 6 to 7 months before the wedding which is saving us from sending out save the dates.
