We did them but no I dont think they are a necessity. You could save the money and postage by just telling people the date.

Not in my case but in others I can see it. Just depends on the situation.

Necessary for us. About 90% of our guests have to travel from quite far away so need time for booking flights and the hotel. It is also very close to Christmas so people need to figure out their schedules in advance. BUT we only sent them to the people we 100% wanted there - the rest of our guest list is still in flux so we are waiting until the traditional time (maybe 2 weeks early) to send invites so we are sure which friends we are still in contact with as much as we are now and to make final decisions on the guest list.

We are doing them because we both have a lot of family coming from out of town. Also, for friends/family who need to request the time off of work ahead of the usual time. It would work to send out wedding invites early.

I would say yes, if only because it will save a lot of answering the same question whenever you see family and close friends.

I mean I guess it depends. How many people are going that are out of town, is it a destination wedding, how long in advance will your guests need notice etc. I personally don't think we'll be sending them out because it's only immediate family.

Maybe not 100% necessary, especially if you are having a small wedding with mostly people you're close to but I think it's still a good idea nonetheless.

I'm having a destination wedding and I skipped save the dates. They seem like a total scheme by the stationary industry to me lol. I sent my invitations about 11 months out, that way guests still have plenty of time to plan.

Necessary. It is nice to let someone know way ahead of time so they can find a babysitter or take off of work.

Not. They're kind of a waste of money and time unless you do it casually like emails

I think it's good to let people know that your wedding is coming up, but not necessarily to have paper versions of it. We're emailing ours.

Definitely necessary if you have a lot of out-of-town guests.

We are planning on sending save the dates, just so everyone can start planning ahead since a lot of my family are far away
