Necessary or Not: Videography?

Maggie, on February 19, 2019 at 11:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 110

Have you been dreaming of your wedding video longer than you’ve been dreaming of your wedding dress? Is a wedding videographer a necessary part of your vendor team? Or do think wedding videography is an “extra” service that you can live without?

Where do you stand on wedding videography? Necessary or not?

Not necessary for us with our awesome photographer and the amount of television (or lack thereof) that we watch, but I'm sure it is for some!

Yes! I think this is well worth the money (and definitely a necessity for me), because how awesome will it be to have a personalized wedding video to view for years to come.

On the fence with this one. We want the ceremony videoed and will do so if budget allows. Our photographer's husband is a videographer so he is on standby if we decide to do so.

Had we had the extra, I think we would have gone for it. But budget didn't allow. I would have liked for our ceremony to be on film. But eh.

I really hate most wedding videos.

Did your photographer give you an idea of when they'd need to know whether you want the ceremony videoed?

I thought not necessary for the longest time but we finally caved and got one and I really think it will be worth it

100% no thank you lol. We found no need for a video to be professionally done at a premium price when we realistically know we will never watch it again. We had plenty of people filming moments with their phones (we also didn't see the point to an unplugged wedding - no one's phone was "in the way," cmon.) so we were able to see small moments that way. We had a photographer. He was wonderful. That's all we needed.

Unnecessary for me. I’m not a huge fan of excessive technology and I hate the way I look in video.

Unnecessary. It's nice to look back on (I'm guessing), but it's not in my budget. I've got two photographers coming to capture our day.

This was not necessary for us. However, we are still deciding if we want too or not. We just want the ceremony tapped. So the owner of the venue has offered to tape it.

It wasn't necessary for us. If we had extra in the budget then sure but it wasn't and I'm ok with it.

Not necessary for us. We would probably watch the video once and then it would sit on a shelf collecting dust. I also work as a video developer so if I really thought we would watch it years later, I would take care of it myself.

Definitely not a necessity for me. As long our photographer gets good shots (as I know he will), I'll be a happy camper!

FH says no, but for me it's a definite YES! It's a luxury expense, but I'm the type that gets so much adrenaline for exciting and stressful events that I "black out" and forget everything that was said, done, etc. So for that reason, I made sure to budget for a videographer to capture our vows, toasts, dances, and all the good stuff that pictures can't! I made sure to look for a videographer that edits his films to tell a story rather than just create a wedding music video, otherwise I would've skipped the videographer.

I'm glad you're so confident in your photographer, Alicia!! Have you worked with him before?

Yes, I pretty much booked the venue, him and our photographer within the first couple of weeks we got engaged! It was super stressful finding someone that could edit their videos the way I liked them in the budget that I had, but I'm so happy I found him! I hope our video comes out the way I imagined (or better!)

Not me, personally, but I've known him for years. I was really good friends with his older sister in high school, and he's done lots of work for my parents' church, so I'm very familiar with him and his photography.

Not a necessity for us. We'd rather spend the money on something we really want and feel we need Smiley smile
