Necessary or Not: Videography?

Where do you stand on wedding videography? Necessary or not?

Optional and very expensive for something you may watch again 5 times in your life.

Would like to have it if our budget allows for it but I don't think it's Nessissary

Kind of on the fence. So far I’m not having one unless someone wants to do it for free for me or someone want to pay for me to get a videographer. I’m probably just going to do it later myself since I have experience in videography

If it is cheap enough, I would love it. My uncle is a videographer, so maybe he can do it for us? Our wedding is going to be livestreamed for out-of-town guests that couldn't make it in anyway, so not really that concerned about it.

How would you do it yourself, Shae? Are you going to be running around in your wedding dress fixing the camera angles?

I think I'm right there with you, eyelette. It'd be cool, but I'm not too pressed about it.

Not necessary, but I know many people who regret not getting one. I will be hiring one for mine since I have a lot of family that live out of the country who won’t be able to attend the wedding. And I know that if my parents or grandparents had a video of their wedding, I would definitely want to watch it

Not necessary. I have gone to friends houses a year, five years later on their anniversary and it is always fun to watch their videos. Some great memories have been shared over the years!

FH pitched whatbI thought was a great idea:
We have a private FB group dedicated to wedding updates for our guests. If we want to, we (or several designated cameras) can stream directly to the group. That way, we capture the video, and we can share the moment with those who can't come.

Think the photographer should be equipped for both, but if not then depends on bride & groom of how much they want to see of their special day

Yes!! We have a videographer plus our package bonus was we get all the raw footage from the whole day so we will have hours of video to watch of our special day. We will be so busy that day will fly by before we have time to truly take it all in. I am very happy to have that!

We don't have enough in our budget for a videographer but my uncle (who videotaped my parents wedding) or a friend would gladly videotape the ceremony if we decide we want it taped.

Oh I meant a few weeks after the wedding I’d put together whatever kind of pictures and videos other people took and that my photographer took and put them together

Absolute necessity. The ONLY recording we have of our Great Grandma's voice is our grandparents' 50 anniversary party/vow renewal. And that is so precious to us. And even our grandparents' voices on that tape with the professional camera and mike set up sound so much clearer and true to life than in any of our home videos with our dad's amateur camcorder (as evidenced by how off our voices sound and our parents' voices sound in those recordings compared to the professional). Great Grandma and both our grandparents have been gone so long that I struggle to remember the sound of their voices so having that record is so very important. And while it is a morbid thought - a wedding is when you get all the most important people together, people that wont be around forever so to record their voices forever is super important. As is recording the music my sister and friends will be performing at the ceremony and all the other special things we wont be seeing cause we will be in the middle of it.

All that said I do NOT want any editing. I just want the raw footage with the sound exactly as it occurs that day - even if that includes my nephew babbling in the background (he will be 3 a couple months before the wedding) or little hiccups in the proceedings. I just really want professional equipment recording it all because no cell phone video will ever equal that quality.

It was important to me but since we're not eloping with immediate family, we're putting that video money into an extra hour of photography.

It's not a necessity per say bUt we were able to find a great local guy for under $500 for videography therefore we're having it.
