Necessary or Not: Welcome Bags?

It’s always nice to give your out-of-town guests some wedding goodies and local information, but it also adds another item to your budget and to-do list! How are those extras to your guests’ experience? Are welcome bags an option you’re skipping out on? Photo from My Wedding Reception Ideas in Ohio...

Not needed, but can be fun. Depends on if you really have a lot of people traveling/staying at a hotel. Most of our guests were local, so we skipped it.

That makes sense, Johanna! Did you have any sort of get together before your wedding?

Waste of money. Out of town people obviously brought necessities with them.

Not necessary, but we’re doing them because we have a ton of out-of-town guests. I think it’s a really nice gesture and sets the tone for the rest of the weekend.

While not a necessity, I do think if you have a large portion of oot guests or are doing a destination wedding, its a VERY nice gesture. To me it just sets the right tone. We’re opting out of favors to do nicer Welcome Bags.

    Unnecessary for us.

We only have a handful of out of town guests, so we will not be doing this.

However, if it were in the budget, I would be all for it, as it is a super cute idea.

I can understand that thought process, Heather, but I think it could be nice to have a little informative thing if out of towners don't know much about the city you're getting married in. Otherwise, things like sunscreen and mouthwash, I get it.

I hadn't even considered it until last night when I met with my decorating consultant. I like the idea but don't know if I'll bother.

Definitely not necessary, but we're doing them. About half of our guests are out of town and have only been to our area once or twice. We're including some local snacks and a little map I'm putting together of things to do/places of importance to us since most out of towners are making a weekend of it. Our hotel is placing them in the room before guests check in.

Not necessary. I have a ton of out of town guests, and I'd have to spend a boatload of cash to get them all a welcome gift lol. We will have a little gift for everyone though, but not welcome bags.

No but a small bag with water and chips or fruit is cheap and nice.

I'm stumped on this. I really want to do them but nobody wanted to stay at the hotel we blocked out, instead opting for airbnb options or a different hotel. Debating if it's worth having a welcome reception and giving them out there?

I think that depends on a lot of things, Kaitlin. How many people are coming in from out of town, if you can budget for a welcome shindig of some sort, how long your guests plan on staying. I've never been a wedding with a welcome bag, but I know I would've appreciated something like a list of things to see or do if I'm traveling to a new or cool city like Boston.

Ah, yes, this! This is super kind of you, Jamie! I know if I were one of your guests, I would truly appreciate the time and effort you'd put into these bags, even if it was just the list of things to do. Smiley smile

Not necessary, save the money and put it towards something else.
