Necessary or Not: Welcome Bags?

It’s always nice to give your out-of-town guests some wedding goodies and local information, but it also adds another item to your budget and to-do list! How are those extras to your guests’ experience? Are welcome bags an option you’re skipping out on? Photo from My Wedding Reception Ideas in Ohio...

Yes, I think this is an awesome idea! Especially if you're from the area you're getting married in! Tell me all the fun places that you as a local like to visit and I as a wedding guest will want to visit them!

Oh man, that's rough, Nicole! Are you planning on having a welcome party? You could give them out to your guests then.

I thought about that but it sorts of defeats the purpose since people will be flying in a couple days before the wedding and the welcome party is the day before. Once we get closer, I will have to see where everyone books, arrives. I think google makes me stress about too much, lol.

I want to hand mine out at hotel checkin but depending on the fees at your property, that may affect your decision.

I don’t think it is necessary but it is a nice touch. Our wedding is a destination one so I am doing bags but not per guest. I will do per room.

Not needed. A nice gesture, but it seems like a waste of money in the long run. Instead, I would rather focus on giving my guests a nice reception to celebrate with us. Memories are way better than any things we can give away.

Definitely not necessary! Those add up fast and guests probably won't remember them!

Not necessary but thoughtful. We're having a destination wedding and thought about it, but since we nixed doing room blocks and letting everyone plan their own accommodation it was too much hassle to coordinate how to get them to guests and actually saves us quite a bit of money since we aren't doing guest gifts at all.

We'll be there all week spending time with the family and having an open bar, lots of food and fun party...what more could you need as a wedding guest? IMO.

Not necessary for all but we are doing them because it is a destination wedding and people are bound to need a map and some essentials. I want all of our guests to feel welcome.

I'm doing them but only because we have 11 rooms of people all from out of state and I want them to have ibeprofen and snacks. We are paying for the lodging so I can just put them in the rooms myself and cut out the middle man.

Not necessary but nice. I’d like to do them but they will not be in the budget.

Certainly not necessary BUT super cute. Assuming the hotel doesn't charge us to pass them out, we're going to make up something small. One thing to consider is that your town may have packets they can put together for free - our town's museum/historical center was at the last bridal show and mentioned that they do this. So that packet plus a stamped paper bag, some water bottles and maybe some candy should bring our total to maybe $2 per bag. Seems worth it to me. =]

Not necessary. In my opinion, it’s a waste of money, and I didn’t even know this was a thing. Maybe for very small wedding I can see it being a possibility

Thats a good idea...will consider a welcome bag for our destination wedding...we're familiar with the area so knowing where the convention bureau to get info helps...will include with favors...so yes will consider important along with favors...should have a Thank you for voming acknowledgement
