Need a good idea for my fiance's birthday - at the wedding!

Kristen, on January 18, 2013 at 9:33 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

My fiance's birthday is October 15th and our wedding is October 18th. Because things are probably going to be crazy that week, we probably won't have time to get together with his friends/family to celebrate. I'd love to have something special for him at the wedding, especially because everyone he would want to celebrate with will be there. Any thoughts? Is a second cake too much? I'm thinking it is..but would love everyone's thoughts.

My cousin's sons birthday is the day before the wedding. At the rehearsal dinner we're having a small cake made for him and we'll bring it out and have everyone sing happy birthday to him.

At my cousins wedding, which was her fh's bday, instead of a groom's cake, it was a birthday cake and everyone sang happy birthday.

Our wedding is on the same day as one of our groomsmen's 40th birthday. When I realized it, I felt bad and was going to move the date and he was like NO WAY! That would be the best way for me to have fun on my birthday, you better not move it! So we kept our date and I'm planning on doing what everyone said above - surprising him with a cake and singing happy birthday to him.

I like the birthday groom's cake idea. But the reherasal dinner might be a better idea as it will probably people you are closer too. Plus you can always invite extra people.

I like the idea of having it at the rehearsal dinner. Unless the dinner's supposed to be really expensive, he could invite extra friends.

I have the same deli-ma. Fh and my son have the same bday three days before the wedding. My son will be 3 so I will make sure that I have a separate party for him before the wedding but I was thinking about just having everyone sing happy bday. I don't know what it would cost for an extra cake and I am going to have left over cake anyway. I think that the extra cake would be a waist for us. I know that he would not be expecting everyone at the reception to sing happy bday to him. He is going to be more spoiled than me that day I think. Our wedding day is also our 5th anaversery too. lol much celebration!

We have a similar situation. Our wedding is my late grandparents anniversary (which is why we picked the day) but it's also my dad's birthday and one of our closest friend's birthday. We are doing individual cakes for them and singing happy birthday after dinner before we cut our cake....that way they have their special moment.

Since it's the groom you could also do a happy birthday signature drink or something like that to tie in his birthday to the whole day.

Thank you all for chiming in!! I love the idea of the signature drink and the birthday cake! Do you think there's a way to have everyone sign something? I want to really surprise him (I'm the WORST with surprises).

I would do it at the rehersal. Does he like cake? You could do his other favorite thing to eat.

You guys will be awfully busy, perhaps you can ask a relative to get people to sign something for you. If you put it at the entrance, he may not even notice!

FH's birthday is the day after the wedding. I plan on having a grooms cake / birthday cake for him and we'll all sing happy birthday (at some point in the evening).

Ooooooo!!!!!!!!!! This is FUN!!!!!! OK ... here's an idea ... at each place setting place a birthday candle. Tied to each birthday candle is a note/instructions. By having the candles at each place setting, your guests will get the info but your FH will have no idea. Then, just before the First Dance and as you guys are up on the dance floor, have the DJ make an announcement, everyone can light their candles (from a centerpiece candle") and everyone will sing Happy Birthday to him. Then immediately go right into your First Dance. Give your photographer a heads up too so he/she doesn't miss a thing!!!! Let us know what you decide and if you can, post some images! Your idea to celebrate his Birthday along with your RD/wedding is so cool!
