Need advice & help! My sample wedding dress is yellowing and it’s not even altered yet
Hi all,
I bought a sample wedding dress 8 months ago off the rack as is. It’s from a 2018 collection so it is indeed quite old. It was half off. I thought it was really beautiful when I tried it on at the boutique but now when I took a closer look today I really feel like it actually needs a lot of TLC.
Aside from some of the threading coming undone, and also the half slip underneath is ripped (easy fix), upon further inspection it looks like it’s actually yellowing/oxidizing. When I look up this specific dress online it’s actually very white on the model but more beige in person with what I have. I do keep it in its bag in a dark closet in our guest bedroom undisturbed.
I’m getting so nervous because the dress is not even altered yet. When I look up dry cleaning wedding dresses, most are advertising about preserving it AFTER the wedding but not before.
Is it possible to successfully restore a wedding dress delicately and return an oxidized fabric back to being white? Also is it best to do this before altering or after?
Thank you SO much. If anyone has any recs on dry cleaners that are experienced in wedding dress restoration (especially in SoCal) please share!
