Need advice on Ceremony music

Richaelyn, on May 30, 2021 at 9:35 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 3

Hey y'all, I need advice on my ceremony music. A string duo will be playing our music so, all the songs listed below will be instrumental. Let me know if you think any of these songs should be switched around or would work better in another section.

Prelude- Make you feel my love by Adele, Air on G String by Bach, All of Me by John Legend

Groom & Bridesmaid Processional- Speechless by Dan + Shay (Me & my fiancé both really likes this one but, he's very persistent on using this song for him & the wedding party to walk down to, but I'm like the Bride is supposed to be the "speechless" one not y'all lol, I've also thought about us both using this song and I'll come in on the most dramatic part.)

Brides Processional- Canon in D by Pachelbel

Unity Candle- Cant help falling in love by Elvis Presley

Recessional- Marry You by Bruno Mars

Postlude- Here comes the sun by The Beetles

Hi Richaelyn! The song selections for string sound absolutely beautiful ❤️ Food for thought- if you go with Speechless and your groom wants to come out on this, followed by your bridesmaids and you coming out at the most dramatic part, I see the song is 3 minutes and 28 seconds. I would suggest timing it out and knowing exactly when your bridesmaids will walk out in order for you to have time to hit that dramatic moment in the song.

My groom wanted to see our moms and grandparents enter so we had him enter at the end of the prelude.
Take it from me, my rehearsal was a timing mess with when the girls walked down and me hitting “that dramatic note”. Literally at 2am the night before my wedding is when I timed out when each girl was to walk down - it worked perfect day of but I don’t wish that on any bride!! ❤️ You are smart to work these details out ahead of time 👍 Hope this helps!! ❤️

Hello Katie! Thank you so much for your kind words. It makes me feel good to know that you like my selections. I never thought about timing the entrances so I will definitely try that. Now thinking about it, I may not even have time to enter on that song (our aisle is kinda long). But how do you feel about having the bride enter on the same song as for the bridesmaids? Everyone I bring this up to says I need/should have my own song.

You’re so welcome! I had the same song as my bridal procession and I came out at the swelling musical part (for reference I walked down to The Prayer). We did it that way because if you have your song different, it can be a looong wait till you enter when the music swells and may come off as anticlimactic. If you’re like me, I wanted my entrance to give all the feels ❤️

If I could’ve done it again, I would have been at the venue alone with my phone playing the music and determined the timing way ahead of time. Despite all my efforts, our rehearsal was so chaotic in terms of timing/music. I had the DJ, venue coordinator, parents, etc. asking me timing questions all at once (no fault of their own, they all wanted it to be smooth which I appreciated) but I thought I was going to bust! Thank goodness we had a rehearsal!
One idea - can the string players add a verse or extend the introduction of the song to buy you enough time? My husband is a cellist and has elongated time by playing two verses to add time to the song. ❤️
