So I need some advice on how to fix a issue with my reception invites. My FH & I had decided to have a dry reception for personal reasons. We had it printed on our invitations that reads " Alcohol-free Gathering" (we use smaller print and made it very tasteful). However, due to a change in circumstances we have now decided to allow alcohol at the reception but we will not be serving it. I need to know the best way to correct the invitation (re-printing & re-ordering new invites is not a option).

I was thinking of including a "Oops Card" inside with the invitation. Would this be suitable??
Please no harsh responses! We had our reasons for the "dry" reception and since changed our minds. It happens!
Thank you

Just double check with your venue that this is ok. I asked our venue about BYOBing. (We are doing beer and wine) and asked if it was okay if someone brought their own liquor in. They didn't sound too keen on the idea and wanted to explain insurance with us. We havent had that meeting yet, so idk what to expect yet.

I would honestly just leave it as it is. It seems like a lot of effort and confusion just to tell your guests that they’re allowed to bring their own drinks. Just keep it as a dry wedding. Some people will probably end up bringing their own alcohol anyway. When you see people individually if they ask about it you can tell them they can bring their own.

I see what you're saying. I will have to ask I suppose to find out more information. The lady asked when we filled out the contract and paid the rental fee if we were serving alcohol and we said No. It states in the contract that it's allowed on the premises but can't be 'sold' so I assumed people would be able to bring their own but yes I will definitely check before I send out my invites. Thank you!

Yes it is definitely confusing! If things would of worked the way we expected it wouldn't be a issue however life has it's own way of messing things up. Thank you for your advice!

Usually the "it can't be sold," means it has to be hosted/provided by you (so no cash bar) -- and most venues will require it be served by a licensed bartender (depending on the laws of your city/state). To not do so opens you and the venue up the potential to be sued in the event of an accident, which is why most have so many requirements, including a separate insurance rider to protect them from a lawsuit.

Honestly, given what you've shared, I think you might be better off to just stick to your original plan for a dry wedding. If uncle or whomever has a huge need to drink, he may well be the type to BYOB without being asked. If he does that, it's on him because you didn't encourage him to do it. You or the venue could potentially kick him out, depending on their rules, or you might be able to remain blissfully ignorant. Daughter's venue was very clear, ANY BYOB would violate the contract and close down the wedding. (Which was not a problem because we hosted a full bar all evening.) Good luck to you!
