Need help with placecard ideas please!

Tiffany, on January 10, 2014 at 2:46 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

Ok, so I'm thinking about forgoing the usual idea of individual placecards. I'm worried about them blowing away (outside wedding), and also I have no idea how they work.. Does someone stand there and pass them out (like an usher?) or do the guest search for their name on their own?

Anyways. What I'm thinking about doing is creating a wedding program which would include things such as Ceremony/reception time line, information on the wedding party, the menu and on the last page include table arrangements. It seems like a bit much but I figured it might be easier to do. What are everyone thoughts on this?

(There will be an expected 70-100 guests coming)

If we did this, we would have our usher pass them out as he seated our guests.

I think if you are putting them on a program for 70-100 people the font is going to be small and they are going to be searching for their name that way too...

Are you wanting everyone in a certain seat or just at certain tables?

Here are a couple ideas that woudln't blow away.

I agree. I don't usually take programs at weddings so I would be lost. Plus, people often ditch the program between ceremony and reception and may not have looked to see their table number.

I would do a table chart like Megan posted above.

Thanks for the advice, I haven't thought about a big chart like that. And I'm thinking assigned tables, but not seats, if that makes sense.

Would that be chaos for everyone to be standing around waiting to find their their numbers?

    What about this idea...

Having the favors attached to their table number and name (the favors are going to be decorated tea light candles so it will hold them down) and then having signs like A-J, K-R, S-Z so people can quickly find their names? I guess that seems tacky though huh?

You could do the favour idea but I would skip the alphabet signs. Not everyone arrives at once so it's not a big deal- and people are always socializing.

Most weddings I've been to use the chart idea and I've never had to huddle around it. Usually someone will be like- hey you are at my table #3 or the wife will tell her husband what table they are at- not all 100 people will be looking at it.

I have to plug my vendor here.

I had the SAME idea as you (wanted to combine the menu, ceremony program, seating arrangement, etc.), and then I found MyBragMag.

You can customize an 8 page magazine ANY WAY you want. The magazine will look SO REAL and COOL that people won't want to forget to take one/leave it somewhere.

    Check them out.

Oh ok, that makes sense. The last wedding I have been to was when I was like 8 so I don't remember it very well. Unfortunately it means I don't know how most weddings go. For some reason I imagined everyone getting their table numbers after the ceremony, not before it lol. (which is why I was worried about a huddle)

Also check with your venue ... mine required place cards for every person with an indication of what meal everyone ordered

Using this as one of our favors--can be reused to hold a photo

We'll be doing a seating chart with assigned tables. My venue actually recommended it. Something similar to this pic.

Not sure what the theme of your wedding is (sorry if you stated it and I just breezed past the info in reading your thread), but I was once at an outside weddign where they had a table with apples and a paper leaf pinned to each apple with the person's name and table number. Using some sort of prop (an apple, orange, rock, or soemthing) would deal with the issue of things blowing away.

I shoudl also note that I really like the idea of a board (framed or not) as a seating chart.

    Good luck!

Recently officiated a wedding where they had tent-shaped placecards with tape holding them to the tablecloth.
