Need help with Timeline

Anna, on June 14, 2019 at 5:29 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 12
I need help with my timeline. I have never been involved in a wedding to see the whole process. I would always go as a guest.
I will be the only one getting ready. Before you ask or judge just know my wedding is very small and my bridesmaids are my baby sisters. All under 15 and they dont like wearing makeup. Plus my mom is real picky with who does their hair so that's why their not involved.
My wedding starts at 2pm. I live like 3 min away from my church. I hire the makeup artist to come at 1130 but if she takes an hour, that will leave me an hour and half to get ready and maybe do nothing lol. Should I move her to noon? What time should I tell my hairdresser to do my hair? I just want to know I am not rushing and enjoy my day. Plus now that I think about it, I might not even have time to eat. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

From these forums I have found out it is best to go hair first. That way you won't sweat off your makeup while they are blow drying and curling your hair. Then you could have a break for food before you have your makeup done. You won't want to mess up your lipstick after that with food. Leave yourself enough time to take pictures of getting ready if that is what you are doing. Also leave more than 5 minutes to get to the church, getting into a car in a wedding dress is going to be way different.

What PP said. You need your hair done first! Are you doing any photos before? If so, your photographer should provide you with a timeline.

We aren't taking pictures but I do want some of me getting ready and with my baby sisters. I've pretty much raised them so it means a lot to me to have these moments with them. So she told me to keep it at 1130 but I thought I was getting my hair done last.

I had 3 BMs and we all got ready at the hotel where we stayed for the weekend and where the reception was at. My HMUA did hair and makeup for me which took 2 hours and then she did makeup for each of the girls which took about 30-45 minutes per girl. My ceremony was at 3 p.m. and we did a first look and got most of our photos done before the ceremony so we could join cocktail hour. This was my timeline:

9 a.m. - 12:45 Meet in bridal suite to begin getting ready. Breakfast consisted of croissants, cheese, fruit, tea, coffee, juice, water and mimosas. Lunch consisted of sandwiches and wraps, fruit, and same beverages as breakfast.

12:30 photographer arrived to begin taking pics of details and "getting ready" (we were ready but still in our PJs) She took pics of the girls helping me into my dress.

    1-1:30 First look pics

1:30-2:45 Wedding party and VIP pics

2:50 Drive to church (10 minutes away)

    3-4 ceremony

4-4:15 Pics signing marriage license and group pics

4:15-5:45 cocktail hour (ours was 90 minutes); Wedding party and VIP stayed behind at church to take more formal pics at church and then left for cocktail hour and bride and groom stayed last

5-5:45 bride and groom joined cocktail hour

5:45 dinner announcement, guests find their seat

    6-7:30 plated dinner served

    6:05 bride gave welcome toast

7:30 bridesmaid gave toast on behalf of wedding party

    7:45 cake cutting

7:55 first dance, after 30 seconds band leader invited everyone to join us

8 open dance floor and open photo booth

8:30 cake served at each place setting for guests to enjoy when they want

9 s'mores served around the fire pit

    10 grilled cheese sandwiches served

11 last dance, end of reception

True. My photographer wants me to do my makeup last. She said she wants to take pictures of me getting my makeup on. I didnt think about the food ruining my makeup lol. But thanks for the advice.

The usual order is to have your hair done first for the reasons people have already mentioned. It helps to have a HMU trial if you can because that will let you know how much time you will need to get ready. The average is 2 hours for hair and makeup for the bride so if you don't begin this until 11:30 you will be running late most likely.

By doing your makeup first and hair last, your risk smudging your makeup or getting hot while they use the hot tools and sweating your makeup off. Most HMU artist will recommend makeup last.
My wedding is at 5:30 and we are doing a first look. My photographer is arriving at 3:00 to begin the “getting ready” photos. My HMU artist is doing both my hair and makeup as well as my bridal party & mine & my FH’s mom. She is arriving at my bridal suite at 11:00 am. My bridal party will go first. I will go last with hair being done first, then make up. We will be done with pre-ceremony photos by 5:00 and relaxing in our separate suites until 5:30.

So should i start hair (having hair down only) at 1030 - 1130. Eat a little then makeup artist 12-1. 1-150- put on dress and take a few pics with my sisters. 1:50 go to the church. Does that sound good?

Yes, that sounds good, though I would add a cushion just in case you/people run late. It is inevitable. This way you're not rushed or feeling pressure to get to the church. Keep in mind that people like to talk and visit so they are not necessarily feeling the time crunch you will feel that morning.

So should I move everything half an hour. Get my hair person to come in at 10-11. 11-1130 eat. 1130 to 1230 makeup. And 1230 to 145 relax, take pics with my sisters, and get ready.

If you can, yes, I would recommend this. Give yourself some time to breathe and relax.
