need opinion before buying dress

Emma, on October 29, 2021 at 9:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
So, I am ordering my dress and the person I am ordering it from has slightly different measurements. My hips are a 36in & hers are 34.5in.. I’m not sure how much stretch the dress has and before buying such an expensive dress, do you guys think it’ll fit? Our waist and bust measurements are the same, just not the hips. If not, do you guys think the hip area can be made bigger? Thank you!

It's going to depend on the cut of the dress as well as whether she had it taken in and how much extra fabric there is at the seams - so unfortunately, I don't know if there is a good answer without seeing the dress. If it were me, I would see if there was any way I could see it in person (and try it on) before purchase.

here is front view of the dress! unfortunately, i won’t be able to try it on first. From what I understand, she has had it altered in the waist but that’s it. Luckily we have the same waist size. it’s just the dang hips lol ! need opinion before buying dress 2

No one can answer this for you. Most seamstress can let out dresses a bit but that is quite form fitting and 1.5 inches could be a stretch… it also could be perfect and the two of you are measuring in slightly different places. It’s kind of a gamble, depends the price and how much you love it.

Exactly what I was going to say! If a refund is possible, then go for it. If not, I wouldn't take that chance and have a dress I can't wear.

From looking at the dress, it's not a risk I would take - unless you can return it for a full refund - but you have to decide what works best for you

I would be hesitant to order unless knowing that there is enough material in the seams to allow the dress to be let out. The hips is an area that needs to fit properly in order to be able to sit!

I definitely wouldn’t expect stretch in a dress, especially with multiple layers and beading or lace. When I ordered my dress, they advised to size based on my measurement (ridiculous example bc I don’t know much about measurement numbers, but: say a size 10 of my dress was had a 30 bust and a 30 waist, and a size 12 had a 32 bust and 32 waist, and my measurements were like a 28 bust but a 31 waist, they advised to order the 12). It is much easier to take a dress in than let it out. Even more so if it is a pre-owned dress that may already have gone through a set of alterations. There may have been a little give when it was made, but it’s possible that give was removed if it already went through some altering. With a smaller hip measurement I’d also stress being able to sit/move around comfortably

I wouldn't unless you can return it as the style of the dress is tight fitting! You don't want to have to stress and spend more money than you have to. Its really up to what you think though

Thank you guys! I’m really appreciating all the help! I do not know a ton about dresses & sizes lol! I’m planning on dropping another 10lbs before the wedding, so hopefully that’ll help too! i’ve spoke with the women i’m buying it from & she’s willing to do a full-refund if it doesn’t fit & can’t be altered. As of today, she said the dress had a ton of extra room in the hip area as you can see where she sat and there are wrinkles in dress. Smiley smile she wanted room to dance, so she didn’t get it altered in the hips to be any tighter! fingers crossed tho!
