Need some opinions on my wedding cake choice

Layla, on December 3, 2021 at 10:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

We're leaning toward a strawberry-lemon-thyme cake, but I don't want people to not eat it. We have some picky eaters who might be put off by the thyme. It's a pretty plain vanilla cake with buttercream icing and just a hint of lemon and thyme in the cake filling. Our other options are a cannoli cake which I know everyone will like, and a vanilla cake/buttercream icing with strawberry/banana/cinnamon filling. Should I just go with something I know everyone will like?

Can your baker do different flavors for different tiers?

I agree with the others! We did 3 flavors - we had a small tiered cake in one flavor and two sheet cakes in the two others.

I would either do multiple flavors or switch to one of the other flavor options. I am not a picky eater, and I eat thyme, but I don't want it in my cake.

If it’s just in the filling I wouldn’t sweat it. People can eat cake around the filling if they don’t like it.

I’ve seen a lot of people on here talk about doing different layers different flavors, but I’ve never understood the logistics of serving that. I have always only ever been served whatever type of cake the servers serve at a wedding , even if some of the cake was chocolate and some was vanilla, ive never been offered a choice …,so if you do opt for multiple flavors, make sure to check in with venue/servers first to make a plan for how it would work!

Hmm that's a tricky one. And I feel like the thyme may throw off some guests if they aren't used to eating it in their cake lol. So, if you wanted to go to with something that people would eat then it would be he cannoli Smiley smile

I always knew I wanted different flavors (especially when some of our guests had certain allergies). So, we had a 3 tier cake: guava, mixed berries, and german chocolate cake. It was a big hit! We had 50 people total at the wedding and people came back for seconds. And they even took some home. (BTW we had a small backyard wedding.)

Personally, I hate when people add herbs (except mint) or flowers (rose, lavender, etc.) to desserts. The flavor is just not it for me. Haha. Just strawberry lemon would be great!
