Need to plan a new wedding in 5 weeks

sbarr6, on September 18, 2017 at 9:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 24

Irma took a hard hit on our wedding venue in the Keys, and today we decided to cancel it. The venue doesn't have an exact recovery timeline, but they are allowing cancellations without penalty through October (which probably means they'll still be doing clean up and recovery, and we figured we shouldn't wait any longer to decide). I'm pretty devastated. And we now have 5 weeks to plan something else. The flights are all booked (and they're non-refundable), so we are looking for something else in the Miami area - possibly Palm Beach?? I don't know the Miami area well (I live in PA), and probably won't get down there to look at places. I'm checking on the local venues on WW, but also wanted to post here... partly to vent, partly to see if anyone has any recommendations (venue, hair, flowers...) in the Palm Beach/Miami/Ft Lauderdale area. It's a small wedding - 20 adults, 11 kids. Any input or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Sorry to hear thing...I think you made the right call. I don't have any specific suggestions but for ease, maybe look for a hotel or resort this way as much is included as possible (food, planner, etc.) some hotels even offer centerpieces too! good luck sorry I couldn't be more help!

You could talk to your old venue when you cancel. They might have some advice for locations that were unaffected by the storm.

This close though, you may have to move your date, or consider daytime.

Good luck! I hope this works out for you! Keep us updated!

I bet your old venue would be able to give you many suggestions for a new site. Good luck!!!

I'm from Fort Lauderdale. Let me know what you need. You're having a small wedding, so the big venues I know won't work. You can have a beach ceremony, that's easy.

Reception, have it at a restaurant. Call Casablanca, they have a private upstairs that fits 50 people. Meals might be a little pricey, but their food is AMAZING!

Other options for private spaces I love: GG's in Hollywood (they do a lot of my events), Blue Bar Grill in Hallandale Beach (they do a lot of weddings), Maxwell room in downtown FTL (actually a wedding venue), and this is just off the top of my head.

If you need the contacts for these places, just let me know. I've personally held events at all these places except Maxwell.

If you want a hotel and venue all in one, check out Sonesta in Fort Lauderdale. The meeting space/ballroom is on the top floor. I have a contact at this hotel too.

Manatee Lagoon is in West Palm and has a super cute event space, check them out! Also loggerhead marine life center is in Jupiter and has private rooms that you could maybe snag? There's also a few restaurants (Square Grouper, Jettys, and Utiki) on the Jupiter inlet that have dining rooms I believe. There's a couple of hotels (Marriott and Hilton I think) on singer island that may have space. Have you thought about maybe chartering a smaller boat for a dinner cruise?

ETA: where was your original wedding? My SIL is supposed to get married on key west in December and we haven't heard from her venue yet....

I have heard of all inclusive venues (vendors included) being able to pull entire weddings together in a few weeks but only if the date is available. Maybe you pick up the date of a fl bride you decided to cancel/postpone after the hurricane..

Morikami Museum and Gardens in Delray Beach. They're in the process of cleaning up from the storm as well but it's absolutely gorgeous. I think it should be up and running by your date because their annual lantern festival is the weekend before and nothing about it has been cancelled or anything yet. It would def be worth it to reach out to them (they are closed Mondays though).

Morikami fills up a year in advance I don't think they would be available sorry. My friend is Director of Marketing there and we couldn't even get in for the date we wanted 11 months in advance.

See if Tideline Resort in West Palm is available...they were on the more expensive side when we looked but with a smaller wedding may be doable. They are located right on the beach but they also have a little outdoor garden area/patio you can use for the ceremony, so you could choose beach or non beach.

Also check out Benvenuto in Boynton Beach. They are a restaurant but also host a lot of weddings and have multiple rooms /banquet rooms on site. We also looked there and they did have some smaller rooms. They did have a lower price point but apparently has amazing food(the rents have been to an event there before).

ETA: Lake Worth Casino will do beachfront weddings for you. Didn't look at it as a venue because we aren't doing a beach wedding but it's close to where I live.

@Tamara- I tried to hold a business meeting at Hard Rock, holy cow.... the amounts they charge are insane. Especially given they are out in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks to you all for your input, suggestions, and offers to help - it is HUGELY appreciated. What an awesome group of people here! I am frantically researching and making calls and checking availability and have found 2 possibilities for the rooms, ceremony, and reception space. (We are trying to keep it all in one place if possible.) The Seagate Hotel in Delray Beach has the rooms and event space, and the Four Season Palm Beach does too (more than we wanted to spend though). Anyone have experience at either of those places? Still looking at other options too. @Bride2Be2018, I'm going to check out the hair place you recommended - thank you! And some of the restaurants you all suggested sound like they might be great for the rehearsal dinner. THANK YOU everyone for your help! Smiley smile

@JGCT - We originally had it booked for Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada. Best of luck to your SIL. Hopefully now that everyone is allowed back into Key West, she'll be hearing soon about her venue... I hope she gets good news!

@Alyssachu - We aren't totally set on doing it at a hotel, but everyone is coming down for 4 days and we were hoping to have activities for the kids during the days (it's 20 adults, 11 kids). We could book the actual wedding somewhere else, but still need to find a hotel for everyone. Would love to hear honest opinions about weddings at South Florida hotels - why the bat signal?

Hi @Alyssachu bat signaled me. I got married at the Marriott Singer Island. They are amazing, couldn't recommend them enough. I also had some great vendors. Lulu Gomez did my and my parties hair and makeup. She's out of Boca I think. My photographer was Tina Blanco from Sara Kauss Photography. My florist was Gianna Events (I think that's what she's called, gonna go double check and might edit). And my dj was Chase from Turn'd up Deejays. Literally all my vendors were amazing.
