Needing Paper Straws for Reception

Kristina, on July 27, 2015 at 1:58 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

At my reception we are going to be giving everyone a mason jar to use for water/iced tea that they will be able to take home with them. They will each have a chalkboard label for names and I am also wanting to add a straw in each one. My question is: WHERE can I get the best quality paper straws from? I know that some don't hold up as well as others. I definitely don't want to give people soggy straws to use! So if any of you have any suggestions on brands to buy or NOT to buy - please let me know! Help is greatly appreciated. Smiley smile

The picture is an example of the look I'm going for.

I got some from Michaels and they didn't get soggy. They had lots of different colors and they were about $1 for a pack on 10.

I did mason mugs and straws, but we did not go for paper, as I personally don't like the way it feels in my mouth (and it saps the carbonation from sodas). However, you can get plastic versions of these straws, e.g., http://www.milanoo.com/product/25-piece-plastic-stripe-straw-for-wedding-p423671.html ... which give you the look without getting soggy. They won't be as cheap as the paper ones, though.

@Rebecca - I like that idea!! Might be worth the extra expense since we will be using the mason jars as a wedding favor as well. It cost less for us to buy them than to rent them.

I just bought a million custom straws on Etsy. Not really a million, but enough.

Marshalls carries them at $1.99 per pack of 24 and they're really good quality. Don't know how many you need, but if you can swing it, you should check the store out.

@Kristina - we did mason jar mugs from Fillmore Container ($.84/ea), with silver metal lids hole-punched for straws, and plastic straws. Everyone LOVED them, and they used their empty mugs to fill up leftover Candy Buffet candy in them with the lids, so they could take it home Smiley smile Accidental bonus favor LOL

We had regular plastic straws in all different colors... Here's ours....

FYI, we put strips of brown paper sticker labels on the tables with a sharpie for people who wanted to put their name on them, but nobody bothered... they carried their mugs around with them, or left them at their seats.
