Nerdy Decor

Hi! My partner and I are recently engaged and will be getting married 4/23/23. We're both geekier people. We like things such as Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, D&D. On top of that, we got engaged in Girona, Spain, where some key scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed. We're looking to incorporate that into our wedding because it's an important part of us and our story.

We've decided to go with an enchanted forest theme to try and accomplish this. That being said, I still want the day to be elegant and feel like a wedding. I'm afraid of branching over into "tacky" territory with the decor. Any tips, tricks, or ideas/ways that you guys have integrated things you and your partner love into the day?
Thanks in advance ❤

Do a Google or Pinterest search for Game of Thrones wedding theme. You can borrow vows from the series or get a themed cake. You are only limited by your imagination and budget

I think subtle and understated details are key!

Here are some inspiration pics for those themes which aren't 'in your face' or overdone (IMO)

My inspiration for my wedding is moody, romantic, mountain evening with touches of Lord of the Rings. We are just doing a few things so it isn't tacky. I found this great artist on Etsy who does LOTR place cards and other printed pieces. Instead of table numbers we are doing different places from Middle Earth. The artist did awesome designs. We are also doing LOTR escort cards. I bought some wood chairs that look like throne chairs for fiance nd I. And we will be drinking from Gondor wood mugs.

Our nerdy touches are in our music choices, our rings, trinkets for our flowers, our cake topper, and our signature cocktails... we wanted to keep it subtle but definitely still speak to our interests! Those who get it will really get a kick out of it while everyone else will just think it's nice.

"Nerd" culture is so mainstream these days that you don't need to worry about seeming out of the norm. Little touches of pop culture faves are everywhere at weddings and you can find so many examples on Pinterest. I agree that less is more if you are striving for elegance.

All of that said, I personally feel that Game of Thrones theming does not belong anywhere near a happy wedding since every wedding in the books ends terribly.

Enchanted forest sounds like something that's hard to pull off unless you have a big floral budget, so that's something to think about. I know that right now floral prices are very high because of COVID -- hopefully by 2023 they will be back to normal. Also when you're talking to venues, ask them about their candle policies.

I think the easiest ways to pull off a theme without getting into tacky territory are with the invites (the LOTR font is gorgeous and iconic), table names, and favors. Also have some fun with your registry. This is on ours -- you're welcome: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1052621667/roll-for-initiative-door-mat-roleplaying?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=dungeons+and+dragons+welcome+mat&ref=sr_gallery-1-2&frs=1

I absolutely love this idea! And the pictures already posted from another reply are beautiful! Here are some more. Also, regardless of what theme a wedding is, avoiding the tacky route is achieved by just following the less is more mantra. Colors textures and lighting can represent a theme very well subtly and then you incorporate some other very thematic pieces. Best of luck! Here are some ideas: You can use vinyl on the big mirror for the seating chart that’s always beautiful and then it easily comes off with heat and you get to keep the mirror for your house, etc.Nerdy Decor 6
