Nerdy Elegant/classic wedding style???

Melissa, on January 23, 2022 at 11:23 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8
Hey everyone! I'm looking for ideas on how to incorporate subtle (and a few not-so-subtle) nerd references into the overall theme of my wedding, and current research hasn't really yielded desired results. My fiancé and I are both HUGE Dungeons & Dragons nerds, and I also want to incorporate his love for the anime One Piece in places as well, HOWEVER, we're looking at more of a traditional/classic wedding style due to both sets of parents being a bit more (shall we say) high class. How can we keep the elegance in our wedding while still having enough of these nerdy ideas as well? Please help!

So cool and unique. So what I think you should do is the same as Walt Disney with his hidden Micky's, just not so hidden. So, put the pieces of the Dungeons & Dragons game in random spot throughout your wedding (some on center pieces, some on the tables in front with your guestbook, etc.) then for one piece use pirate coins in the decorations and napkin holder. I'd even use it in the floral pieces and on my garter.

Hope this helps and Happy Planning

I think the easiest way would be to plan the elegant wedding, then determine where you can add in or replace items with your “nerdy” items. For instance, you could do a One Piece groom’s cake for your fiancé. You could have an elegant wedding cake with a a D&D or anime themed cake topper. You could use the One Piece theme song (instrumental version without the words) as your recessional song when you walk back down the aisle at the end of your ceremony. Etsy has several d&d inspired wedding invitations. Or if you wanted to use regular invitations, you could do a D&D wax seal on the envelope. Etsy also has D&D ring boxes. You could gift your fiancé D&D cufflinks, and (if he’s a drinker) this beautiful decanter and glass set.

Also, if you have a wedding hashtag it should totally include “rollmates” (instead of soulmates) to reference D&D!

Signage and table numbers could help incorporate your theme. And, as many sellers on Etsy have flexible templates, you could change the layout/font/colors and/or make it more subtle. Nerdy Elegant/classic wedding style??? 8

I would do table numbers (or names!) for sure. You could do table names that relate to D&D (Characters or places or moves - I'm not familiar so whatever works!) and also have the numbers for the tables be represented by, instead of just a boring 3, a 20 sided die image with that number showing! The digital imagery on your programs and invites (If you haven't already sent) could have subtle hints to the stuff you love. I'm a big fan of incorporating nerd-culture into my every day style, things where if you know, you know, and if not it just looks cool.

I love the idea of doing the theme song as an instrumental to walk up or down to (we're doing non-traditional songs as well cause I am not a fan of the bridal march or the wedding march) and definitely check out a cool cake topper.

You could also do signature drinks that you change the name of to be named after your D&D characters, or the name of your quest etc. If you wanted not so subtle, you could somehow incorporate rolling the die into your first dance. Again, I don't know the ins and outs of D&D but you could have it so it was almost like a little skit where you roll to make a move and in doing so it choses the song and dance style of your first dance.

You could also incorporate items into your bouquet. Something like this:

Where the die are placed inside the flowers. It can be done with florist wire really easily!

The wedding should reflect you and fiancé. Parents already got married so as long as you aren’t being offensive, they don’t have a say in the decor. Embrace the nerds that you both are.

I just wanted to say that is awesome. We are having a nerdy wedding in that it is a Godzilla themed wedding since we met on a Godzilla Discord. What we are doing is rewatching all of the movies to get more ideas (we do have a lot). I would recommend you do have a look together at all of the source material again while planning to get some ideas since there might be stuff in there that you might not have remembered that might inspire you.
