Nervous About Looking Good in Wedding Photos

Codi, on April 22, 2021 at 9:13 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16
Hello fellow brides! Are any of you nervous about looking good in your wedding photos? I’m not doubting the skills of my photographer and videographer, they have a great portfolio. But there’s so much pressure and I always seem to take bad photos 🤦🏻‍♀️ Nervous about having that lovely, bad angle, double chin thing going on...

Same here. I hate having pics taken and it definitely shows. I’ve got a year to tackle some of the physical issues I’m concerned about, but I don’t know that I will ever be comfortable in front of the camera. Candid shots are far better for me than posing!

I know I felt nervous the day of my wedding. I know whenever I felt those nervous moments I would take a moment and just some deep breaths. It relaxed me. I also would talk to my bridesmaids about how I felt and they would always be super supportive. I am sure you will look beautiful on your wedding day!

I don't think I'm photogenic and I also have body issues I struggle with so I completely relate to this. I'm worried that my arms will look fat, my boobs will look saggy, or that my double chin will steal the show. The reality of the matter is that no matter how good a photographer or videographer are, there are certain features we have which will not be hidden purely because a professional took the photo/video (unless photoshopped).

I am trying to overcome this fear by reminding myself that my body is beautiful and no it is not perfect, and even entertaining the thought of asking my photographer to airbrush our photos to hide my double chin would result in wedding photos that I don't look anything like myself in.

Discuss your feelings with your photographer and ask that they refrain from poses that might highlight those areas. You don’t want to hate looking at your pictures. I wasn’t feeling Insecure, and then I got our pictures back.

I’m sure this wasn’t Intentional, but there’s about 20 pictures of varying closeness/angles where it looks like I have 10 chins and no neck. I cringe looking at these. I believe he asked my husband to say something funny and Instead of a smile this is what my reaction was.
I’m sure you’ll look great and your pictures will be beautiful. Especially if you let them know what your worries are. They want you to be happy and look good.

That’s what I’m thinking too is more candid photos. I feel like when I’m asked to pose and then have the camera going off I’m thinking too much and it translates horribly. I’m low key jealous of my fiancé because he has a beard to hide things lol!

Aw, thank you for your kind words. Yea, I’m hoping that I’ll be super comfortable with my fiancé because he always gets me to relax and lighten up in the moment.

I love that you view it that way and I feel like I teeter totter between feeling insecure about the possibilities but also having an ‘i don’t give a crap, this is a special day’ sort of attitude. I also think we tend to focus so much on those things we dislike about ourselves but other people don’t notice them nearly as much.

Awe thank you for your reply. I still think you look lovely and genuinely happy in the photo. I know when I laugh at something, I tend to have that wonderful open mouth like a horse face type of thing haha 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ll definitely speak with the photographer about it and hopefully even just talking about it helps in the moment.

Have you done engagement photos yet? This can be a great way to get to know your photographer and feel more comfortable with them, and will also give you a chance to give them feedback on what you do/don't like. I loved the guidance that our photographer gave us to make us look good, but I realized that I have a tendency to make "claws" with my hands. Now that I know that I do that, I can be more aware to relax my hands when we take our wedding photos. Just like most things in life, being photogenic can be improved with practice.

I specifically asked my photographer to focus on candids as much as possible. She assures me that after we do our engagement session I’ll feel more comfortable. Having taken professional photos many times before though, I know that I’ll look like a wild eyed lunatic.

I was so upset about my pictures I hired two different photographers. I'm glad I did though. I got one on referral and one from a Bridal Extravaganza the latter didn't take as much time as the other company and it showed. I am now stuck with a delima of asking the second company to take some shots at my wedding even though I have already completely booked and paid for the first company but the second company did such great work. Decisions Decisions. Congratulations to you and Good Luck

I hate pictures of myself. I am the least photogenic person ever and candid photos? Forget it!
But I must say I love our posed photos.

And even these that were really us just being silly while waiting for our photographer to set up. She said it looked like he was hitting on me and she snapped a few. Nervous About Looking Good in Wedding Photos 5

We actually didn’t do any engagement photos as our wedding was postponed and COVID really messed up the timeline. So I think that’s part of why I’m nervous too is my fiancé and I literally have zero experience with professional photography. With the wedding being two weeks away, I’m not sure how we could prepare.
