Nervous Dress Shopping

Stephanie, on September 9, 2020 at 5:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

My first dress appointment is coming up this weekend and I am completely nervous and scared. I fear that I'm going to look absolutely awful in everything I try on and not find anything that looks good. It's just going to bring my self esteem way down and put me in a bad mood I know it.

Aw hey it might be fun Smiley smile ya never know! But I know what it’s like to have bad self esteem and body image issues so my advice is to not be afraid to try different things because you’ll be able to see what does work on you!

That was me! I absolutely hated dress shopping and I thought nothing looked good. I ended up going to 15 stores before finding my dress. Which I still am not in love with. It was more of a ehh this will do I’m done shopping rather than that perfect moment. The dress isn’t important. You marrying the love of your life is important. Really listen to what the dress people have to say and they will know what looks flattering. Purposely try on some absolutely god awful dress you think look terrible on purpose it will make you laugh! Trust me I was brought to tears of frustration so many times these stupid times of laughing were great! My fmil even tried on an ugly dress to try and make me smile. Good luck hun! Also bring a loose dress or robe to wear. I ended up standing around in my undies way more than I wanted to!

Don't be nervous! Go in with an open mind, and try on different styles of dresses, even the ones you don't think you'll like. You might not like some of the dresses on you and that is 100% OK! It's just to figure out what you do and don't like, and you can narrow it down from there. Even if you don't find the dress at your first appointment, that is also OK! Keep looking and don't get discouraged. Take note of what you like/dislike, so that at the next shop, you can go in with a better idea of what to try on. You might end up liking multiple dresses too! Happy dress shopping!!

You might just be surprised. I felt the same way. I'll never forget the feeling I had when I tried on my very first dress. While it wasn't the one I definitely had an "oh sh** this is actually not going to be that bad" moment lol. I looked way better in it then I thought I would in a wedding dress. My advice would be to try to go in with an open mind and have fun with the experience.

I just went through this with my daughter. She was so stressed about the same thing. Just relax and try on different styles and see what looks best. My daughter found her dress in 48 minutes on the first trip and LOVED it. You will find the perfect dress for you.

If you go in thinking you're going to look terrible in everything, it's going to be harder to believe that you look great. If you can't convince yourself you'll look good, it might be helpful to go in with a list of what you want or don't want (I wanted a white/whiteish dress that wasn't too poofy and that I'd be able to use the bathroom in without help) so you can focus more on whether it meets your requirements and then how you feel in each one. If you put on a dress and it makes you feel good, it'll be easier to see that you look good.

Try to go in with a positive attitude. I am positive you will find something you love and feel beautiful in. I would go to your appointment with a few dresses in mind, but also be open to trying styles you never considered. Your consultant with help you find something that will look great on you!

Have fun! Dress shopping was one of my favorite parts of wedding planning.
