Nervous to mess up vows

Jessica, on October 4, 2019 at 10:45 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9

I'm nervous that I'm going to mess up my vows. Were you guys nervous? Did you or your spouse mess up during your wedding? I'm prone to mispronouncing and messing up when I'm talking normally, and it would be especially embarrassing during a wedding.

I enjoyed watching this video so I wanted to share it because it's related. I hope that if I do mess up, it'll be something funny like this!

I am normally a good public speaker (I'm a professor). I was crying and so overwhelmed with emotion that no one could hear my vows because I was so quiet (not my norm). It happens. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is you get married. Honestly, things like that just become funny stories to look back on.

The women in this video was a mentor of mine!! she’s so amazing.

i think it’s okay to mess up your vows. it’s just you and the people you love. you all will laugh together and i’m sure your groom will just think it’s adorable. if you’re really nervous maybe just practice them and have them with you during the ceremony (i know some people memorize them)

I read a poem for my vows and had trouble with reading sentences that went on for several lines. I thought each line was the end of the sentence and put emphasis on it, but then it kept going. My advice if you read a poem is to color code the lines to know what inflection to use.

I know for a fact I'm going to trip up on my vows! I think it adds a more personal touch to the ceremony instead of reading robotically perfect Smiley smile

I have performed plenty of weddings and there is always a flub, sometimes even by me. You may see it as embarrassing but your guests might simply chuckle and figure nerves got to you. A little laughter and a mistake or two are part of any marriage. Don't take it too hard if you do mispronounce a word, it could be that funny moment you look back on years from now.

You don't have to be nervous about messing up your vows. If something does happen, laugh it off and keep going! I'm sure it'll lighten the mood and you'll be perfectly fine! (:
