Nervous walking down the aisle

Jess, on June 12, 2021 at 8:51 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 19
Any ladies also nervous like I am? Lol I’m so scared I’m going to fall hahah and having all eyes on me 🙈 I’m pretty shy in person so maybe that is making me feel this way

Omg me to. I don't really care to be center of attention. And knowing everyone will be looking at me makes me so nervous. I'm shy as well.

Well don’t be nervous. I honestly felt great about walking down the aisle until my music randomly stopped during the middle because my DJ suggested to loop it, but he didn’t loop it properly lol so there was just this awkward pause and then the music started again midway through. That was a little nerve-racking. I’m sure you won’t run into that though.

Yes! I'm introverted and don't care for all the attention to be on me, my FH and I are waking down the aisle together

Soooooooo nervous too! I’m doing a first look which I think will help calm me a bit. Fiancé always knows the right thing to say when I’m nervous.

Don’t be nervous! Just relax and take a deep breath and make a tunnel vision when you start going down the aisle. Focus on your fiancé, and savor this moment when you walk down the aisle Smiley smile

Oh, this is why I’m purposely wearing flats to my wedding. 🤣 I’m pretty clumsily some people have commented on my division to wear flats but maybe some hype music and a shot before you start walking?

Yes! I would prefer to walk alone because I am 52 and being “given away” is silly for me, but…it will be nice to hang on to my brother’s arm!

That is a very common fear. Also why many brides do not want to walk alone but are often pressured anyway “because you’re an independent person and don’t need to be given away“. That doesn’t stop the nerves and stage fright. No one is giving anyone away so that mindset is very archaic and judgmental to automatically assume “she has an escort so she is that person’s property“. Very few if any people in the real world outside of WW you will encounter actually believe that.

It’s pretty common for a bride to start down the aisle alone and she gets two steps in and freezes like a deer in the headlights so someone has to jump in to help walk her down the aisle and never once does “property” enter that Good Samaritan’s mind. Just try to focus on your fiancé at that point. It’s easy for someone to say “don’t be nervous” but they aren’t you. Getting over the nerves is one of the reasons why photographers strongly urge couples to do pictures together before the ceremony.

That said, I’m not a shy person but I do freeze up in crowds that are focused on me. So I definitely intend to have someone walk with me. Not sure yet who I will be asking.

If you're not used to being the center of attention, of course you'll be nervous.

I'm an actor, so I LOVED it, but maybe I can share some tips.

    1. Practice breathing NOW. Sounds silly? No. Work on keeping your breathing regular and deep. Count if you have to, like in meditation or yoga. Find a way to just... slip into a nice, slow, breathing rhythm at the drop of a hat.

    2. Break in those wedding shoes!

    3. Make sure the alterations on your dress account for the height of those shoes.

    4. Put on a skirt that's at least as long as your dress in front, and walk around in it. A lot.

    5. Go practice breathing again.

    6. When you get to the aisle, look at your FS, and don't look anywhere else.

    7. Remember that *every person there* loves you or your FS and is there to support you.

Omg thiisssss! Lol I tend to make weird faces when I'm uncomfortable. You know the expression "If my mouth doesn't say it, my face will!"... LOL!

    Rebecca gave such great advice!

I originally wanted my mom to walk me down the aisle, but after thinking hard about it, I want to walk myself. Keeping eye contact with my FH will def. help the nerves and will give me something to focus on! I also plan on wearing my ceremony shoes to the rehearsal.

We are also NOT center of attention people, but this day is for YOU and your other half. Its not about anyone else there. (PLUS everyone there is supposed to love you anyway) Train your brain to not care what others think. I think nervousness comes from worrying about what others think of you. When that thought is out of your head, its easier to just enjoy yourself.

I do my best not to, but I'm a klutz by nature, so I can't shake this image that I'll either trip on my shoes, or my dress will get caught on something. I'm also a little afraid of guests thinking I look fat in my dress. (Long-running body issues here.)
