Never Say Never

Have any of you ever told yourself, "I'll never be with a man/woman who/that...?" If so, did any of you NOT follow through and are now with someone who has a quality or something that you swore you would never go for? If so, what is it?!

When I was younger, I did not want to date a guy with body hair. Haha I thought it was so gross! Even though my FH doesn't have a ton of body hair, he does have a lot of chest hair and grows his facial hair out at the end of the year. I love it!!

When I was young, I told myself “I would never give a man a second chance”, oh boy, staying married is hard! DH had a bad ocd, which effect his temper so he disrespected me so many times. I kept staying calm. 2 years ago I filed for a divorce, and that’s when he realized he needed to change. And he did! He is a totally different person after therapy and the shock. There you go, I gave him a second change, and we will renew and also having a wedding and honeymoon never had on our 25th anniversary 🥂

Didn't think I'd ever be with someone younger than me (DH is 6 years younger).

DON'T DATE OTHER ACTORS. (Lol, we met outside a dang theatre.)

Also told myself to stop dating guys who were Jewish or Catholic (no lie, every guy I ever liked/crushed on/dated *with the exception of ONE* was either Jewish or Catholic). ...DH is Very Italian to the Point of Being Named SALVATORE. ...He's a littletinybitwenttoCatholicHighSchoolandCollegeCATHOLIC. (I'm neither Christian, nor Jewish.)

I said I'd never get with someone who was unemployed or lived with his parents. Right before we met, my fiance lost his job and moved in with his parents. LOL He's a very hard worker and got another job and now lives with me, but hey! Life isn't ideal!

A friend all but served us to each other on a platter, because we are so disgustingly perfect together.

Haaa!! It’s a little long but here you go…

    Walmart story

One night I needed to run to the store. I can’t stand Walmart and I’m much more of a Target girl. But since Walmart was closer, I “bit the bullet” and went. It was nearly 10PM and I was dressed terribly, yet perfectly for Walmart. My jeans were dragging the floor because I had them on with flip-flops (when I usually wore them with a wedge heel). I had on a green jacket and a purple T-shirt that I probably got free somewhere (and the shirt hung a little longer than the jacket). Basically, I was looking like a hot Mardi Gras mess in green and purple. But my plan was to run in and run out.

But then… I saw FH a few feet away near the check stands. He was pushing a cart and we were walking toward each other. I noticed the cap he was wearing and was going to make a comment about it but I didn’t. Then a few steps after passing each other, I turned around and asked about his hat. Surprisingly, FH had already turned around after we passed too (his story is that he was turning around to look at my butt 😂). From there, we stood in front of the checkout lines since it was late at night and the store was empty. We found out that we knew some of the same people from the circles/organizations that we’re in and began chatting and laughing like we’d known each other for years.

At one point FH reached out and lifted my left hand and then said, “Oh! It looks like you left your ring at home“ (a crappy pick-up line) 😂 . After giving him a weird look, I laughed and said, “Yep, I sure did”, all while knowing that I was recently divorced. As we were talking, we noticed that an older lady was standing behind us. So we apologized and explained that she could go ahead of us. The lady said, “Thank you. I’ll let you two finish catching up”. We told the lady that we actually don’t even know one another and just met.

FH asked for my phone number, so I gave him my business card and told him that it was nice chatting. It was an awkward goodbye because no one could immediately leave since we still needed to purchase our items. I didn’t want to remain standing behind him in line. So, I walked over to another lane. FH’s line went faster and I was still paying. He walked by and said, “I’ll call you“. And for some reason I said, “What are we gonna talk about?“ He said “Your outfit“. LOL 😂🤣 I cracked up laughing! Thankfully I have a sense of humor and that was totally something that I would say. Plus it was an outfit that I should never have worn outside anyway. FH called the next day and we immediately became like best friends. The funny thing is that we didn’t officially date until two years later. Also, after a few weeks of talking, the topic came up about us meeting at Walmart. So as a joke, I started calling him “Wally” and he called me “Marty” (get it?). Now 7 years later, we still use those nicknames with each other. We met February 7, 2013 and instead of Valentine’s Day we began celebrating “Wally Marty Day“ instead (it’s super corny, but we don’t have to fight the Valentine’s Day crowds)

On our wedding website, our FAQ section has a mix of facts about the wedding, along with fun facts about FH and I. One of the questions actually asks where did we met. We’re having a destination wedding in Vegas. Well FH is a Raiders fan (and Vegas is their new home), so I was going to get him a small Raiders groom cake. But I also want to give him something with the Walmart logo too. So it will probably be on the front of a card that I make for him to read on wedding day. But I’ll keep thinking about it 🤔

Hahaha!! Thank you for indulging me!”- I loved the story! Especially “Wally’s” comeback about your outfit 😂😂 This story just solidifies what I always say... it seems like you always meet/get hit on when you’re looking your worst 😆
