My husband and I both changed our names! It took me the full 2 years of our engagement to decide what our new last name was going to be. His name was already hyphenated and he wanted me to keep my name but I wanted us to have the same last name. We settled on him dropping one half of his old name and adding mine and I took the same combo. We are both really glad we did it!

I'm keeping my name. It's a second marriage for both of us and we're both established professionally in our current names plus we both have kids from our first marriages and want the same last names as them. I can't imagine the headache of changing my name 😂

I am taking his because I have always hated my last name. Also I like having the same last name signifying this new chapter.

I was so excited to change my last name! My maiden name is hard to spell and pronounce, my new name is much easier. Plus, I love that we have the same last name, and that our children will have that same name. Makes me feel like we're our own family unit now

Not changing my last name but I am hyphenating it. Just don’t think I could jus drop my last name.

Changing, I can't wait 🥰 he didn't care if I did or not because it's not a part of his culture, but I want to be a singular last name family. 😇

My last name is pretty unique and FH's is pretty common. I had always liked having a unique last name, but with all the creeps on the internet, I want a bit more anonymity. All my degrees, licenses, etc. are in my maiden name, but nobody really sees those since I'm mostly remote, and all my coworkers know I'm getting married. I ordered a handful of "Mrs. [FH'sLastName]" items that have arrived, and they got me SUPER excited about the change!

I'm proud to be taking my FH's last name. Our children are grown and it would signify our new beginning.

We are both hyphenating so us and our future children have the same last name. It will be MyLastName-HisLastName. I'm also an only child so my last name would not have carried on otherwise! He is the oldest of 9 kids so no worries there. Smiley xd

I am taking my fiancé’s last name and I look forward to it. We’re old fashioned like that Smiley smile while my first name doesnt “go” with it as well as my maiden name, I really don’t care because the significance of a unified name and the tradition of it means way more to me. It is also nice that his name moves me way up in alphabetical order (still scarred from grade school 😅 I was always near the end!).

I wanted to keep my last name because I love my last name so I hyphenated it.

Keeping my name as is...but I'll hyphenate for social media or dont mind being called Mrs. ___, but on paper my name will not change.

    I changed mine!

His is more complicated than mine to pronounce and I still worry I'll get the spelling wrong, but I do love it! 3 months on, I also still don't feel like that person with that name just yet. I guess it's just hard to erase 36 years of being person x, but honestly, I wasn't expecting it to take so long to get used to being person y! Even so, it's actually really nice to have the same name as each other. It definitely makes me feel closer to him, and like we're a real family - even if I KNOW that a name isn't what makes anyone family (and I definitely don't think people who choose not to get married or not to change their names are any less a family than we are) emotionally ... I do feel closer to him, and like more of a unit. I think I'd feel that way whether he changed to my name, whether we chose a new name together... I don't think it would matter what the name was, but having the same one feels special.
