Is anyone marrying into the military?? Like your spouse will be fresh out of tech school or basic? We were told we couldn’t get legally married before he leaves bc it is too last minute and could effect his ship date but now I have no idea of when he will be back, leaving me with no wedding to planSmiley sad I’m hoping I don’t have to stay here while he goes to his first PCS and traveling separately isn’t on the table for me, please drop advice or your personal experiences!!

My husband is Navy but we got married in June 2020 (his buddy officiated it with just me and him) for paperwork. So with that being said its easier to do it sooner the better. Unless you do a full on wedding. The problem with that if hes is basic you gotta be on his papers as soon as possible for the military in general to move you. We are doing a big wedding in may but in a different state which also gets complicated with leave dates and covid too. Because they only let you so far unless you put in a leave request.

We were doing it just for papers but his recruiter said if we did he might not get to leave on his ship date for basic and I don’t know when I’d get to see him again to try again for papers I’m fine w waiting for a wedding have been for a bit now. Do you know how soon papers need to be in to be put onto his info and into DEERS?? Or if he goes straight from boot camp to school?

My parents were navy, but both of them were active duty military before marrying. Best childhood I had! It was fun traveling all over the world with them and their marriage was great. I recommend you get advice from a military lawyer.

I am not too sure to be honest. Most people do it before basic to get more money and paper work to go on their orders to move to wherever. I mean it took us about a month for paperwork to be put in but he has been in for 8 years. So my situation is different. They usually go from bootcamp right to school after they graduate.

I am marrying into military as well but my situation is different. My fiancé has been in the Navy for 10 years now and we are all settled and no plans to PCS for at least 2.5 more years. I have heard that the paperwork can take a while. We are in the work up stage of deployment and we chose to wait until he comes home to get married because of the stress that this will be putting on our family. It's not ideal- I'd love to be married sooner and transfer over things like insurance, house title, etc. but it just seems like it will work better for us because we will be able to enjoy the event more when it is all we have to focus on. It's hard enough planning a wedding during Covid but the military aspect complicates it so much more!
