New Signature

Erin, on April 10, 2020 at 9:54 AM Posted in Married Life 1 26
Although there are way more important things to be worried or concerned about sometimes worrying about silly things is a bit of a relief. So I thought it might be an interesting discussion/distraction to see how far in advance of your wedding day did you start practicing your new signature? I keep thinking I will, but I almost feel superstitious about it in a way which has kept me from actually doing it! I’m down to three months so I probably should just bite the bullet and do it! 😂

I never practiced... but after we got married my signature looked like a 3rd grader learning to write cursive for the first time though 😂 after like 3 months or so I got used to it

I've practiced mine. My cursive, at least with my last name has resembled a bit of chicken scratch. With my soon to be new last name, it too looks like chicken scratch. It is what it is. 🤣

I’ve always hated my signature because I felt like it looks the same as it did in 3rd grade! 🤣🤣

I definitely had to practice once I changed my name!!

The first year with a new last name is so funny - I panicked and had to correct myself half the time people asked my name and would frequently change signatures partway through signing receipts! It's tough to break those ingrained habits, and it throws up a ton of red flags and suspicions when you pause to think about your new name! Smiley laugh

Haha I’ve been thinking about mine too!! Thankfully FH’s last name is shorter than mine so
I’m hoping it won’t take too long to adjust. I’ll probably start practicing soon.

This is a great idea for a distraction! I'm adding his name and not dropping any of mine, so I don't even know which names I'll use when sign things.

I practiced mine maybe a month before the wedding. I personally thought I had a really pretty signature after 28 years of practice, but now, 5 months after my wedding, I’m pretty sure my 6 year old niece has a better signature than me.

My last initial will still be the same. I practiced just scribbling the new letters after M in a different way lol

We went to a premarital counseling event and the guy hosting it is an officiant and he highly highly recommended practicing it ahead of time so when it's time to sign your marriage certificate, it will look the same as the way you'll sign your name on everything else

Ha! My signature is illegible now so I can’t see a new name making it more legible so I’m just gonna with it.

My FH last name is a tad bit longer then my maiden name, which I don’t think will bother me. But I’m going from a “M” to a “S” which I think will be the biggest adjustment! Lol

I'm doing similar! I'll be changing my middle name to my current last name, and changing my last name to FH Smiley heart

I didn't practice beforehand and I should have. My signature is so much harder with my new last name and it looks horrible. It still does and I've been married over a year now. My husband thinks it's funny! I also blame it on being left-handed as well LOL. My new last name is longer and starts with a different letter so it was a complete adjustment! Smiley laugh

We're not getting married for another 2 years (although we're considering eloping privately in the mountains before we leave Colorado early next year) I started practicing right after we got engaged. His last name doesn't quite go with my name as well as my last name does for signatures, so I've had to practice xD I still haven't gotten it quite right.

Never. We've been married 2 weeks tomorrow. And the only time I've used it is to cash checks. Granted I cant change my name or leave the house much. And so far my new signature looks almost the same. I've always written my last initial and a scribble... and my initials aren't changing.

Haha, this is one of my great arguments for not changing my name. I practiced my signature for SO LONG as a kid and now I really like it and don't want to change it.

As far as practicing it, I think you can either think of it as really fun and practice a lot leading up to the wedding OR you can be superstitious about it and wait until after. There is really no correct answer, just do whatever feels right for you!
