NJ Ceremony sites

Jessica, on February 23, 2011 at 3:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

So I'm getting pretty annoyed because I can't seem to find some place to actually GET married that doesn't want less than $1,000 for 2 hours of their time. I have the best officiant, and we don't want a religious ceremony, but now I'm lacking a place to actually get married. I've emailed so many places and called so many people and no one will just let us get married anywhere or if they will they are charging through the nose! Does anyone in the northern NJ area have any ideas to help? I will most likely need 2 hours total to decorate, get married, and have someone clean up, and I don't want to pay out the nose to do it. It's 2 HOURS. And we also don't want to get married at the reception site...we don't want to see each other before we are married to take pics and we don't want to take pics well into the cocktail hour either.

And we are getting married in November so the weather could be hit or miss so we want something preferably indoors.

Where in NJ are you? Allaire Village in Farmingdale has a cute little chapel (their website is kind of outdated) and really gorgeous grounds for pictures after the ceremony: http://www.allairevillage.org/weddings.html

Rutgers Gardens in New Brunswick are really, really pretty too: http://rutgersgardens.rutgers.edu/weddings.html

Kirkpatrick Chapel at Rutgers is also really pretty: http://www.mywedding.com/apps/public/guide/listing/free?listingId=45166

Obviously I'm from central NJ so I can give more suggestions for places around here but it depends on where you are.

Yea I already looked into the chapel and the problem that arises with that is that our wedding is on a Friday so it's not available until 5 pm and our reception starts at 6 pm. We totally would have booked there otherwise. I think I looked into the gardens, but I will definitely look again.

Which chapel did you already look into, Kirkpatrick? Rutgers also has Voorhees Chapel...not as pretty, but worth looking into: http://mgsa.rutgers.edu/about/VoorheesChapel.html

    Reeves Reed Arboretum, in Summit

Flat Rock Brook Nature Center in Englewood

Did you ask your officiant? Many of us have worked in numerous locations.

@Celia Yes I have. She is working on it as well. Thank you for the suggestions. I will look into them.

@Rosie You're right it's definitely not as pretty as Kirkpatrick. I would have to spend a lot more money on flowers instead! lol

We looked into Reeves Reed. A bit pricey if you want it outdoors (not sure about indoors). They wanted to charge us 1-2K to have the PRIVILEGE to put a tent up... not even the cost of the tent. Also there are tenants that live upstairs, and parking is horrible.

Englewood also has the womens club that is really cute http://www.intimateweddings.com/venue_description.php?venue_id=461

Thanks Gemma, but we already checked out the woman's club. They said they only rent for a minimum of so many hours and charge like 2k.
