No alcohol at wedding

Beecham2Barrows, on May 20, 2017 at 6:41 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 73

The past 3 weddings I've been to have had no alcohol... Zero,zip,nada... I want an over flowing bar at my wedding. So I guess what I'm asking am I strange or are my friends strange and what will your wedding be like when it comes to the drinks?

Depends on why there was no alcohol... Religious reason? Morning/early afternoon ceremony?

I actually upgraded to the premium bar so I'm telling my guests to order the grey goose. I have a lot of big drinkers coming.

Top shelf premium open bar is included with our venue. I'm so fucking excited to see my guests have a great time!

I have never A. been to a dry wedding or B. heard of one here.

There is no good reason, religious, time or any of the 11 reasons people give.

We are doing top shelf open bar. Our families can drink and so can our friends and the don't expect nothing less than top shelf. Since our wedding is a backyard wedding we are buying all the alcohol since it's not provided by a venue.

Some people just don't. Not a single wedding in my family so far had alcohol. I will because I think it's proper hosting and I like to drink. Sadly my venue doesn't allow hard alcohol, including mixed drinks, but I intend to have a decent variety of wine and some beer.

We had an open bar and I heard several of our guests reaaaally enjoyed themselves. I heard our officiant lost his drink at one point, went to get a new one and sat down at his table and told the husband of one of my BMs what happened. BM's husband pointed to an abandoned half empty drink next to him and asked if that was it. Officiant laughed and laughed. Im glad no one had to feel bad about losing? their drink. Eta: the rest of the post. Sorry about that.

My family would be furious and or perplexed. If a brunch wedding, I would do mimosas, wine, bloody maries.

I've been to one wedding with an open bar in my life...every other one has been dry, usually for religious reasons.

We're having a full open bar. Because duh.

That's unusual imo- unless... they are daytime weddings? I don't drink much if it's a day wedding, if at all...

We're having an open bar- I'm not sure I'll have a full bar though- just not sure which liquor to choose- this is a backyard wedding - I need to meet with bartender soon to discuss what they'd recommend getting

'what will your wedding be like when it comes to the drinks?'

Mojitos after the ceremony then beer wine, cider and sparkling on offer all night. Mulled wine and whisky bar at the end of the night. We like our booze.

We had an open bar at ours. But I am always mystified at the idea that not having alcohol is a huge problem. Suppose, say, that only half your guests drink. You could considerably upgrade the food for ALL of them for the cost of an open bar that only half of them would enjoy. Wouldn't the food upgrade be better hosting?

And just having alcohol doesn't necessarily work for everyone anyway. First wedding, we had open bar for cocktail hour, then wine with lunch. But a lot of family still left early because they didn't think wine was enough.

But I now have a group of friends who don't tend to see alcohol as all that important, anyway. (People often have parties with just sodas, etc.) And I know I'm in the minority here.

There are a lot of nondrinkers in my crowd. I could easily have a dry wedding but I won't because my FH and I do drink. I've been to a few and had a fine time.

Your friends are horrendously cheap. I will be having an open bar because It is UNACCEPTABLE to have your guests pay for anything

There would be a riot if we did not have an open bar at my wedding. It's possible FH and I would lead them.

The only weddings I've ever been to were dry. One was held at at a church. The other was a Mormon family. And my sister was just being cheap at hers. Lol. Mine will have alcohol.
