no Bar...now what?!

latasha, on September 7, 2019 at 9:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 15
I get married on Saturday.....SATURDAY 🤦🏾‍♀️. I have been very specific about what the venue needs in terms of caterers license (to serve alcohol) and insurance. Our company tells me last minute they don’t have any of this. Sooo now here we are no bar 🤷🏾‍♀️. Last minute scrambling for a bartending company. One company quoted me almost 10K 😩😩. Annoyed is not the word lol

So sorry this is happening! Would you still have non alcoholic service available without it? I'm as much a lush as the next Irish chick, but I've been to dry weddings and didn't die. :p Usually there's after party bar hops, etc.

You might be able to give airplane bottles as "favors" for mixers? My friend did that in his wedding, but he was in Texas. I thought it was fun to mix and match my own, but may not be everyone's jam or even legal where you are.

You can sometimes rent a bartender from restaurants through their company, it’s an option where I live anyway. I don’t know much it would cost but it’s worth looking into.

If all else fails, dry weddings can still be fun.

Since it's a private party can you bring in your own alcohol and hire a couple of bartenders to serve?

Do you have record of them telling you the things they promised? Emails? Contracts? If it’s in a contract it’s their problem to supply you with a bar lol and they need to figure it out! Did you have a food & bev minimum?
But maybe try Costco for liquor and mixers and beer and wine and getting a bartender. Or you could do like a Mimosa bar or something like that. Or just have beer and wine and let people serve themselves?

Ugh! I was just talking to a potential catering company company yesterday and was telling me how to prevent this.. It will all work out! Nothing like a little added stress.

Can you do wine and beer without insurance? Hopefully it's just for hard liquor.

Read your contract and emails very thoroughly. Depending on what your contract says, I would contact the company again and tell them to either:

    1. figure it out and get the insurance quickly or

    2. pay for the bartender & drinks via another (certified) company themselves since this is their mistake

That is assuming you haven't been refunded yet, and that the open bar plan is in writing. So sorry you are dealing with this!

Maybe it's a sign? I would just go with a dry wedding and if people ask, tell them. It's not terrible to have to not drink. But I would find something that you and FH can toast with. We are having a dry wedding but I told people they are welcome to bring their own. So we are bringing our favorite Wine. I thought that was a good idea because I'm not really a wine person so I wont be drinking more than my one for a toast.

Latasha, first let me say I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this.

OMG pissed and annoyed can not even describe how livid I would feel. If it is in writing anywhere they need to figure it out. An unknown dry wedding is not really a great thing from a guest prospective. Is there anything you can do? Do you need insurance/license to do wine and beer or just champagne?

Hopes that this gets fixed. And good luck!
