No bustle

Kristin, on March 18, 2019 at 1:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
Did anyone go without a bustle on their dress? I really can’t afford it but I do still have a slight train. If anyone skipped it, how did your dress hold up? And was it difficult to deal with during the reception?
The picture I added isn’t me of course but this is my dress and that’s how it will look.

My friends bustle broke at the beginning of the reception and she had to hold part of her dress all night. She didn’t say anything but I could tell it was annoying.

I’m curious about this as well... this is the back of my dress, so it has a train but not a very long one. There is a little wrist strap underneath the bottom layer of the train, so I intend to just put my wrist through it and hold it up that way! My mom is also bringing a needle and white thread and she said if it gets way too annoying to hold my dress up, she will just sew it up as a quick makeshift bustle while I’m eating haha.

I honestly (1) don’t like the look of bustles (2) don’t intend to dance much—probably not at all, beyond the first dance (3) would rather save the effort and money of getting it done, especially since my dress fits perfectly and I don’t need alterations otherwise.

Hopefully it works out well for both of us!!

I personally hate the look of bustles. My seamstress is taking off the train on my dress for this reason. I didn't want a bustle and I wanted the dress to be a lot lighter and easy to move in considering I'm getting married in late June.

I personally don’t like how bustles look, but I also can’t handle dress dragging on the floor all day & night & ending up super dirty (yuck).
My dress has very light & short train (yours looks light as well) & I will do the simplest one-point pick up bustle (over or under, which is also called one-point French bustle). It looks very minimal, it’s super simple/cheap to make & I’ll be able to dance & not worry about anybody stepping on my dress.

I understand the point of saving money, but even if you don’t plan on dancing, you might be surprised how many people truly accidentally step on your dress. While they know you are the bride, most people think the dress will be bustled so they aren’t looking behind the bride at the reception.

I had a bustle and H still kept stepping on my dress. It was so frustrating and almost caused our first married fight Smiley xd because I thought my bustle was going to break, and then I was going to be furious. I think bustles are hideous, but a necessity.

I would recommend having it bustled or cutting the train off with the rest of the hem.

I attended a wedding this past weekend and the bride’s train wasn’t really long but she didn’t have it bustled. Everyone including her husband stepped on her train all night. You might want to look into an alternative like see if your dress has that band underneath to hold the train on your arm. She seemed pretty annoyed every time she went to walk someone was standing on her train.

It would be super annoying to have have it bustled I think.... Maybe see if you can just have someone pin it up for you real quick or bring safety pins? I just imagine people unintentionally stepping on it all night long regardless if you are dancing or not.

I don't want / plan on getting a bustle, and my dress has a train. However, I plan to have the seamstress pin it up to show me what it would look like with one, so I can make up my mind then....but I really don't want one otherwise.

My friend's bustle broke during the reception and people ended up stepping on it and she fell once, she was holding it almost the whole night so I went & bought safety pins to bustle it.

I am not going to bustle my dress. The train is to pretty to bustle I want it to flow. My seamstress will add a wrist loop for me to hang the train when need be.

That's my worry is that I'll get annoyed. I don't wanna spend my wedding day aggravated, especially since I know it will be noticeable.

I love your dress! It's so pretty!

But I'll have to check and maybe my dress has that too? I'm like you. We're having our first dance and that's it. I'm not a dancer so I won't do any more than that anyway. All the pictures I see of bustles just look so weird to me. Plus I read somewhere that they tend to look bad with the material my dress is made with. And I'm definitely with you on the money part. I paid enough just for them to hem it and tighten the straps. I couldn't imagine paying more. There are better things I could use that money for. Good luck!

Luckily mine still isn't heavy. I'm sure it will be difficult to move around a lot but at least it's lightweight.

My dress had a train smaller than yours and it caused a bit of tripping. My alterations cost 150 that included taking in the sides a size or two, adding cups, and a small bustle. But obviously friend on the dress and fabric. If possible get a quote.

Yours may be long enough to have a finger loop bustle which is a bit old school but elegant-- my best friend had this at her wedding and it worked out well, even though she ended up having a separate reception dress.

Maybe just do a one point bustle so it's not too much but it will still hold it up?
