No color scheme?

FutureMrsBowen, on December 3, 2016 at 11:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

This might sound weird to some, but I would love to hear thoughts on this. FH and I can't really decide on colors/color scheme, and we've been just going with neural colors when deciding centerpieces and flowers- white roses, some green, etc. Our ceremony is outside in a garden and it doesn't really need a lot of decoration (yay!) I'm fine with just having "any light color" if that makes sense. Anyway, I had a consult with my florist today to decide on bouquets for my MOH and I, and brought FMIL along (she's not paying). I told the florist to just run with seasonal flowers and neutral colors-- FMIL threw a FIT! She said I "need to make decisions" and asked "how am I going to know what color dress to get?!" I told her she'll look great in any color she chooses. She was piiiiissed lol. Am I crazy? Should I be choosing two colors to go with? Did anyone else just not really have a color scheme?!

I don't really have a color scheme either! People keep asking me what my colors are and really I'm just sticking with more neutral colors for the wedding party attire (like taupe and light gray etc) I want my flowers to pop! It's going to be outside too and my decorations will mainly be flowers and just the beautiful great outdoors. I really don't feel the need to commit to specific colors, but people sure seem to be concerned about what my colors are. I don't think it's crazy at all, and you're totally not alone! Picking specific colors feels a little limiting to me. I'm also just mainly choosing flowers that will be in season with some wildflowers--maybe I'm crazy too but I loved this idea! Glad I'm not the only one.

I think people just typically choose colors to tie everything in together decor wise but since your going to be outside I think any color flowers and different color flowers would look fine.

Same thing happened to me, FMIL was/is obsessed with the colors. But you don't need them unless you want them. Smiley smile

No color scheme here either! Bridesmaids will be in plum, groomsmen in grey, then flowers will be also be seasonals. My mom is wearing navy and FMIL is still picking hers.

It sounds like the real issue here is FMIL is worried about what she's going to wear. Since she was planning to wear your "colors" anyway, how about giving her a few ideas for colors that would look nice on her? Also I'd ask your mom to select her dress first and share the color and formality with FMIL. FMIL seems pretty traditional so that might help narrow things down for her too

We're not doing one. I don't see the point of it.

I'm doing the same thing! Everything is neutral colors....the bridesmaids can pick ANY floor length dress in ANY light, neutral color. The swathes will be given to the florist and she will work her magic. Being that I'm so laid back about it, it has caused lots of drama with family members who don't understand....because it's different than the norm! We are deviating from the norm, and not many people can understand. People are creatures of habit!

As a bridesmaid it's nice to have some kind of solid direction as to what to wear. I think otherwise it's perfectly fine to not have "colors." It bothered me A LOT when my SIL wanted us all to get dresses that we liked, but wouldn't pick a color...no one had any idea what to do.
