No garter toss, replace it?

Paula, on May 16, 2020 at 7:38 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5
So our original plan was to nix the garter toss and replace it with the anniversary dance, like many do. We wanted to honor my fiance's grandparents as they have been married for 65 years and would have won. However, we just lost his grandfather and we really don't want to do it anymore. We are going to honor his grandfather in another way. I know we don't have to replace the garter toss, but I kind of wanted to if we found an idea we liked. Any ideas?

Was there a favourite song to the grandfather? Maybe your fiancé and grandmother can dance to? You could also have menu cards at the tables and put “in loving memory of” on the back. That’s tough.....to not bum everyone out, but still celebrate their amazing lives together for so many years.

We just lost the garter toss and didn't replace it with anything else. I didn't do a bouquet toss, either, just presented it to an engaged couple. (It was so low-key, my photographer nearly didn't catch it.)

We honored our grandparents/lost loved ones with a picture wall.

If you'd like an anniversary dance, just do it, and honor your grandfather in a different way.

We didn't do a garter toss or a bouquet toss. We did do an anniversary dance, but you don't have to replace the garter toss with anything. Most of your guests won't even notice.

It's ok and common to skip the garter toss and not replace it with anything
