No Garter Toss/Bouquet Toss Alternatives

Stephanie, on September 9, 2017 at 12:03 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19

Hey guys,

so what did you do at your reception that instead of the garter toss/bouquet toss? Reason I am asking because I am really ok if I never see a another toss again, and I don't want one at my wedding. What to do instead? What worked well, what didn't? Did you guys just have more time for dancing?

We skipped it all - left more time for dancing. Guests didn't miss it and a few said they were glad because they hated it.

We also skipped it with no replacement. No one seemed to enjoy it at weddings I've been to lately - so I didn't see any need to do it, or try to replace it.

I'm giving my "toss bouquet" to the couple still standing at the end of the anniversary dance

We skipped the tosses and did not replace it with anything. My sister did an anniversary dance, and gave the "toss bouquet" to the couple who had been together the longest.

I've heard of people doing the shoe game instead.

I've never heard of this anniversary dance before. Can some one explain it?

We plan on skipping it although we might do the bouquet toss since that aspect of it is still requested for some reason. No need to substitute it with anything. Most of the recent weddings I've gone to recently haven't done it either.

I will do the Anniversary dance as well. We will ask all married couples to dance and then as couples who have been married 1 yr or less to leave then floor, then 3, the 5, etc until the last remaining couple is the one who have been married longest.

I think we are just going to skip them completely. We are probably going to have a dance to honor anniversaries around that time, but not the traditional anniversary dance. (My parents will probably be the longest married, and they don't want to do it.)

You don't need to have an alternative--just skip it.

I'm not planning a garter toss, but mom wants me to throw a bouquet. I'll be doing the shoe game too in lieu of the garter!

We’re deciding on doing this for the garter with the original bouquet toss, just an anniversary dance, or just replacing the shoe game for it all.

You have all married couples on the dance floor. As the song goes on, the sh will ask people who have been married 5 years or less to leave the floor, then 10 years and do on. Whichever couple is standing last (married the longest) are given the bouquet or a special gift.

The shoe game is a fun alternative for the awkward and sometimes even tacky garter removal. The Dj reads questions and the bride and groom sit back to back and they take one shoe off and when the dj asks the questions the groom and bride hold up either their shoe or the SO’s shoe deciding on who the question sounds more like. There are TONS of shoe game ideas on Pinterest!!
