No Guestbook?

Not that I don't have lots of time to figure this out, but is a guestbook worth while? Is anyone not planning to have one? What made you decide not to have one (if that is what you decided)? Does anyone that had one at their wedding still look at their guestbook? FH and I were considering having a globe for everyone to sign, and I found a neat, glass globe that I became obsessed with and the FH pointed out some practicality issues with it, and then we started questioning the whole idea of a guestbook in the first place. I like the idea of guests being able to write out their best wishes, but I don't foresee myself wanting to display a guestbook forever and ever, and I don't see myself looking back into a book if we went that route. I don't know!! Any insight is greatly appreciated!

ETA: Struggling with the words this morning! Must have the coffee!

We are skipping it, I always hate signing them, and I know we wouldn't want to hang anything in our house with random signatures and writing on it. It' just not our style - we'll have a photobook made with photo booth pictures and professional pics for our wedding day - and that's going to be enough for us.

@Erin Wood... the messages in a bottle is kind of like one, but also different, it's actually a neat idea Smiley smile

@CidySue FH, who is the champion of overthinking, which sometimes drives me nuts, but often times results in something good, was concerned that messages would smear on the glass easily, and was concerned the process would require supervision. If it's a painted globe, I think that wouldn't need to be a concern, because the paint allows the ink to have something to grip to. Regardless of all of that, the whole conversation ultimately led us to question the necessity of a guestbook over all.

Thank you for all of your responses. Lots of great input!! Lots to think about, but definitely still leaning towards skipping it.

We put out a number of small books. Each one said "leave us a note to read on our XX anniversary" and a few were for special occasions. We loved reading the first one on our honeymoon, and they're small enough that they don't take up space or need to be displayed but we can look back on them each anniversary.

People keep telling me that a big guest book to put on the wall is a "must," and that I'm always going to look at it fondly. But I cannot imagine putting anything like that on my wall and I can't imagine wanting to look at people's signatures. Maybe I'm a jerk, but I've never gotten the point of wedding guest books. We have photos nowadays to remember things by. I like the idea of these letters or well wishes instead.

We did one because we found an alternative we liked (state cut-out), but we also totally could have skipped it. We're more likely to display this on our wall because it's we like the design than because it has our wedding guests signatures on it Smiley smile If we want to reminisce about who was there we can look through our pictures!

We are having 4 wine bottles with Anniversary labels. I think 1st, 2nd, 5th and 10th Anniversary but I could be wrong. Anyway they will be on a table with gold markers for people to sign or write on them.

If I wasn't having a Photo Booth...I'd probably skip the guest book. But I found a really cute one on Etsy that will be customized with a photo of me and FH on the front and then inside people can washi tape one of their Photo Booth photos inside.

I didn't want any decor either. A book is pretty easy to store away though and it will have pictures of the people who attended the wedding in it.

I hadn't considered skipping it but now that it's been brought up, I might. It would be one less thing I have to remember the day of. Also, I feel like it's kind of pointless with a small guest list. Whatever we use will look bare unless we get something super small and then it may be too small to display in a house.

I keep going back and forth. There have been somethings that I was just so excited about and had to have and others, not so much. We talked about it last night and FH pointed out that if I didn't get super excited about it (say like my table assignment display!), it must not be that necessary.

Guestbooks are just one of those odd wedding elements where it is difficult to imagine not having one, yet it's difficult to really justify having one as well (especially if you know it's not something you'll care about a few years down the road).

Mine is just a giant cardboard M I got from a craft store that I painted with black chalk paint and people are going to sign with the white chalk pens. Simple, cheap, can be put on a shelf.

We are going to have a photo book made with some of our engagement photos and pictures taken over the years with space for people to sign.

So we opted not to do a guestbook, but my husband surprised me with a sketch of my wedding dress and his suit for my wedding gift. He had it on display at the reception for the guests to sign the mat border of the framed sketch. I re-framed the sketch and have that in our bedroom and put a group wedding photo in the signed frame. It actually looks amazing and am very impressed with the whole piece. The photographer got on a ladder and took a photo of all of us looking up toasting to the camera. My husband and photographer thought of this together. That group photo is just amazing. Just so happy! One of my favorites. I would love to show a photo of both, but we are moving and I have everything packed. Here is the company he ordered the sketch from http://www.mydreamlines.com/wedding-guestbook/ They have an example of what the signed frame looks like. Good luck in your decision! <3

We're doing a guest book, but we found a cute one for $12 on Amazon. We definitely wouldn't have spend a lot on one

We didn't want a traditional book. So we are going with a guest quilt. Something different and can be used in the future.

We had a traditional guestbook from hobby lobby. I do like how a lot of people wrote their addresses in it along with a short message, but most people just wrote their name, and the book had way more pages than we ever would have used up. Could have done without it altogether.

I have never seen a guestbook at a wedding I've been to. Why does a guest need to give well wishes in a book when most give a card? I would never display it, so I won't bother.
