No Honeymoon?

Vanessa <3, on March 17, 2013 at 6:45 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 44

So both FH and I are in school right now, so not only do we not have money to spend on a honeymoon, we really don't have time to go on one either. Did anyone else not go on a honeymoon? Did you do something else instead? Or does anyone have suggestions for a cheap weekend excursion (we live in Cali... I know there is a lot to do out here, I'm just not sure what!)? Thanks!!

We are not having a honeymoon. We are going to be moving to ID (from NC) a few months after so we don't want to spend the extra money on it right now. We plan on doing if on our anniversary when we have the time and money to go and do what we actually want to.

Oh... we booked a hotel with a jacuzzi in the room for 2 nights (wedding night and day after). We paid 100 per night for paying in advance.

Sorry for blowing up your thread! Just wanted to share one more thing. I don't know where in Cali you live, but my FH is from SD and I used this website last time we went on vacation there. You might be able to find something fun to do on there that isn't an everyday typical activity!

Even if you didn't go far far away, couldn't you rent a nice hotel room for a couple nights? I know out here they are bout $140 to $200 a night for a decent economical place, depending on how close to the city you stay (Pittsburgh). You could pick somewhere close to home, and do all the touristy things you have never done before. Get some brochures and a visitor's guide, and go have fun Smiley smile

If it helps at all, my parents left the morning after their wedding for Cancun...back in '83. Mom spent most of the trip by the pool or on the beach by herself because Montezuma took revenge on dear old Dad. Sometimes fancy honeymoons are a waste of money. Years later they went to the Virgin Islands, and claim that trip was their real honeymoon, because it was exactly what they wanted for the first.

Hopefully this will help reassure you. Honeymoon or not, you'll be together and can save up for the trip of a lifetime!

We're not doing a full honeymoon because of funds and I am in school as well. We're planning on doing something next year after I am done.

You can check out groupon and livingsocial for mini vacay's that are inexpensive.

    Good luck!

We wont be going anywhere right after the wedding, we are going to wait until January or even April of 2014 if we can afford it then. I'm ok for even waiting until November 2014. Smiley smile

Thanks for the suggestions! I just get a little sad when everyone asks, oh where are you going on your honeymoon? And I have to say nowhere Smiley sad

Our wedding is actually going to be in Michigan, so we have a hotel there for 2 nights before we return to Cali. I'm thinking maybe when we get back a weekend camping trip somewhere nearby, and saving up for something big in a year or two.

FH and I wanted to go to Italy but we both started new jobs at the beginning of the year and won't have very much vacation time racked up by October. Plus, we want to buy a house before the wedding too. If we do anything, we might stay at a hotel for a few nights.

We won't be doing a honeymoon, either. We're not in school or anything- we just dont have a need. We've lived together for two years, and are already taking a week off for the wedding. (few days before and after - wedding is out of state)

It is a bit depressing when others ask where we are going on our honeymoon. I know how you feel, Vanessa. But we decided to wait and go on a nice cruise or to the Bahama's, Jamaica, someplace different, away from area's we typically go. It's just not in the budget for a wedding and a honeymoon. I doubt we will even go anywhere for a night or two. FH won't get much time off work, if we did go on a cruise it would only be for a 3 or 4 night one...so, by waiting we'll get to go on a trip that is longer and nicer.

As of right now we have no plans. I think we will go somewhere, but I don't think it will end up being the Ireland trip I wanted.

Why don't you just do some day trips on the weekends? Go to different restaurants, explore new towns. I don't think you have to go anywhere overnight for it to be considered a honeymoon. People ask say " we are honeymooning in and around the town".

Don't feel sad... After all that wedding spending I think a lot of people can't afford (or afford the time off work) for a honey moon. We have the same idea as Danielle we just got a room for night after the wedding as well and then will prob take a small trip at our anniversary

Lucky me - I like that idea. There is plenty to do near where we live that we haven't explored yet!

My parents went camping for their honeymoon (somewhere on the upper peninsula in MI now that you mention it actually) and so did my cousin. Cost effective, you can borrow things if needed (my dad had to borrow his mom's car and tent to go on their honeymoon!!) and could be totally romantic and fun!

We are, but I would look into a B&B or renting a cabin. You deserve a couple special nights to yourselves after the wedding. It doesn't have to be *big* though.

For our first valentines day together, FH booked us 2 nights at a local B&B and we toured my city. Tried new restaurants, did a couple touristy things he'd never done, visited a museum I had never been to. All those things you think you'll do because they're so close, but then you never do. It was a seriously fun weekend.

Some friends of mine are just going to stay in a hotel in the city for the weekend. We're driving out to the peninsula for a weekend get away at a bed and breakfast. There's no need to go all out and have a huge honeymoon, I would rather save the big trips for later down the road and have just a relaxing get away weekend to relax.

Emily - love the idea of camping for a honeymoon!

Where in CA are you located? What about Yosemite since you mentioned camping? There is also Big Sur, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, Bodega Bay, and Napa Valley.

We are thinking of a spa weekend at a place in Wisconsin 4 hours away from us, we don't have time to take a honeymoon right after...spa stuff sounds so awesome to me right now though!
