We're not doing a honeymoon either even thou we've talked about it for over a yr where we wanted to go and that's Freeport Florida. But all that has gone down hill cause of financial issues. So we talked about just taking the following weekend after the wedding and getting a hotel with a jucuzzi tub for the weekend if we are lucky. And then save up and take a honeymoon vacation for our 1 year anniversary.

No honeymoon here - it's just another holiday and we don't need one. (we have just come back from one)

I know a few people who just went to B&Bs or hotel for a few days or just stayed an extra night in the hotel for their wedding. When people have asked me I just tell them we are locking ourselves in our house

We are going on a 'Mini-Moon' waiting for a bit to take a full honeymoon.

Dont get sad, just say, We have to finish planning the wedding before we can even think about a honeymoon Smiley smile and its true! You could get a super big fat check from someone and use it on your honeymoon, you never know!

We live in FL. We spent our wedding night at a local hotel, rather than go back to our apartment. My then-boss loaned us his house in the mountains of NC for a week. Because we got married in Oct., the leaves turned while we were there!

We are taking a week for our DW wedding ... arriving a few days before to prepare and staying four days after. So a mini-moon we'll share with our families. We just closed on our new house in January, and it is more important for us to concentrate our funds there. We are planning our big trip to celebrate our one-year anniversary.

I've heard of plenty of people waiting to take a honeymoon. I have some friends who got married last September and plan to take a cruise to Alaska in May. My fiance and I are planning something similar. In regards to getting sad about it, just tell the people who ask that you plan to go when timing and finances work better for you. It's different from having no honeymoon at all, it's really just about finding the right time Smiley smile

We got married last month, and didn't have a honeymoon...lack of money, time, etc. etc. so we decided to go on our official honeymoon for our first anniversary. We did stayed at a nice hotel the weekend of our wedding.

People asked me about our honeymoon and I simply told them we are having our honeymoon next year...It will be romantic...

We're doing a mash-up. We planned our wedding/reception around the time & place we normally take our vacation. This way we don't have to go out of our way to spend extra money we don't have. It definately cuts cost. We'll plan a honeymoon down the line maybe on 1 of our anniversaries but for now this works best for our wallets. I'm paying off a school loan as we speak so there you go. I'm sure there's some local places that you've been dying to check out like new restaurants or B & B. or just do it when you can. It's no pressure that the HM has to follow rt after the wedding. You can alway's step outside of the box & be creative at home too. It's whatever works for you. Good luck w/what you decide & happy planning!

A honeymoon doesnt have to be fancy 5 star hotels and gourmet meals. You can do like my sister did, they rented the presidential suite at a local hotel for $115 a night and spent two nights there, using the money they received at the wedding. They also got quite a few food gift cards, so they used those to eat during those two days. Its something to think about...

We didn't go on our honeymoon until about 6-7 months after our wedding when we could afford it and not be putting everything on credit cards. Best decision ever! We did however book a hotel in NYC and just did a little weekend getaway the weekend of the wedding...So I got two!! Ha!

We are having a "minimoon". We are staying at a local bed and breakfast for 3 days. We were originally going to do a carnival cruise but we ended up not being able to afford it (i'm glad we cancel seeing as how what happen with those other two ships). We are hoping in a year or so we can do a big honeymoon out of the states. If you are looking for a great weekend getaway for cheap you may want to check out Groupon & Living Social, they have amazing deals for weekend getaway, week getaways!

We are about to take our honeymoon. Leaving Friday night! But, obviously, we took some time to save for it. Right after we got married we went on a weekend trip, which was great, actually. I think a weekend camping trip could be perfect! Smiley smile It's just nice to not be in your home doing dishes, actually.

Where in Michigan are you getting married? I may be able to recommend some fun things to do while you are still in town, it can be part of your "mini moon" Michigan is beautiful, especially along the lakeshore, there is alot to do! I live on the West side of the state (on the lakeshore of Lake Michigan) so I can give you some suggestions if your wedding is in my area!

This might not be your thing, but what about a nice bed and breakfast? They are generally smaller than the big hotels (more privacy) and run by a small group of staff (more attention to guests) and everyone I have ever been to was located in a beautiful place, like the mountains, a garden or farm. Might be nice to get a day or two of privacy where you can focus on you two. I am from Maryland, so I cannot help you with specific locations, but just to give an example I would choose one around Virginia area near harper's ferry or Gettysburg because they have fun historical tours and museums, art gallery, mountain activities, water sports and shopping. Are there and B&B at this type of crossroads in Cali near you?

We did the mini-moon right after our wedding. Stayed in our honeymoon suite for 2 nights, enjoyed the whirlpool tub and then head back home and spent 2 more nights at our place. Turned off the phones and just enjoyed being a new married couple. We went on our honeymoon just last month (6 months after our wedding) to Mexico to enjoy the warm weather, beach, etc when it was very cold at home and had the time off and the money.

Melissa - we are getting married in Bay City, so opposite side of the state! I know of a couple nice beaches near the area, though, so we might spend the day after our wedding at one of them.

I'm glad we aren't the only ones who aren't doing something fancy right away, I feel better already!
