Just Said Yes December 2023

No idea where to start!

Bre, on December 25, 2021 at 12:08 AM Posted in Planning 3 13
I've been dreaming about weddings and getting married since I was a little girl, but now that my time has come, I'm not sure where to start. It feels like there are so many things to tackle, and we haven't even landed on a solid date, yet. The one I have listed is just a ballpark.

We JUST got engaged this past Monday (Dec. 20, 2021), but I'm already being flooded with questions with anticipated answers like when and where and how big and who's going. I'll I've got so far is my fiancé and I want to have our whole families meet and have fun together while still being the wedding of my dreams. Other than that and the fact that we don't want to get married where we live (not fans of beach weddings), I'm drawing a huge blank.
Any tips and recommendations would be simply amazing! ♡

Congratulations!!! Super exciting and overwhelming im sure.
My fiance and I struggled with all the options and directions that you can go with a wedding. We sat down and brain stormed a bit on what is "us". We wrote down everything from favorite foods, to memories, cute nicknames and even spirit animals. Once we found a cute catchy theme, everything else kinda fell into place. We haven't picked a venue yet, but we have a direction. I'd suggest truly reflect on your relationship and moments you've had. Find what compliments your story best. Some examples, first date was at the movies or are you movie buffs? Try looking at theaters.
For my fiance and I our thing was Bumble bees. Once we decided to include small Bumble bee into our wedding theme, we knew we wanted a flower field wedding. If you find yourself exhausting resources, and still not knowing, try browsing wedding planners.

Blue Ridge Mountains in Floyd, Va. That is where my finance and myself are from and its beautiful there. Check out there amazing venues. Your sure to hava perfect day there! Thats what we are doing April 9th 2022 but he acually owns about 80 acres on the mountain so we are having it on his, now our land. An outside country setting is stunning for a wedding and makes the best pictures ever! Plus, April is the perfect weather. Not too hot or cold. Just pray it doesnt rain but be prepared. Im having a tent witj decoration and lights on stand by off to the side of the site we picked in his woods. Be prepared! Congrats! Have a beautiful wedding and the perfect day!🥰

Highly recommend starting with a rough list of who you think you’d want to invite. This will help you get an idea of how many people you might have. Also come up with a plan budget wise. From here you can look at venues, keeping your budget and estimated guests in mind. You don’t want to book a venue that only holds 60 people and have 200 people you want to invite. Once you have a venue booked, that’s when you have a date secured and can start looking for other vendors dj, photographer, etc.

Personally, I think it’s really nice to just spend a few weeks/months enjoying the newly-engaged moment before jumping into all the planning. You can gracefully brush off any inquiries from people - “We’re just getting started on this and will keep you posted!”

Enjoy your new engagement! Once you’re ready, deciding these big decisions with your fiancé will make the other stuff easier:
    1) your budget
    2) estimated guest list3) venue If you want to have theme that can help you choose a venue. For example, a rustic wedding would be better in a winery or barn. It’s easier to turn a hotel ballroom into a glam wedding. If y’all are quirky or offbeat, a zoo, library or historic place might be fun.

I second the idea of setting a budget and guest list first. Once that's settled I would highly recommend hiring a wedding planner. Jackie Yu at Wedding Story has already helped me so much
