No Maid of Honor or Best Man?

Jacqueline, on September 2, 2019 at 6:33 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 13
My fiance and i arent planning on having either, or any bridesmaids or groomsmen but my mother is urging us to at least have a maid of honor and best man to bear as "witnesses" to the wedding. I asked, do the guests not count as witnesses?

So i guess im just asking for thoughts here. Is either role at all necessary for a wedding?

Completely unnecessary. You don’t need them if you don’t want them.

I agree with Laura! You don't need them if you don't want them! It's less to deal with, too!

If your state does not require witnesses, then I saw go with your original plan and skip the wedding party.

You'll have to check to see whether your state requires witnesses to sign. But even if it does, you can have anyone as your witness--it doesn't have to be someone standing up front.

We aren't going to have a bridal party but are going to ask someone special to be our witness.

You don't need to have a MOH or Best Man! Anyone who watches your ceremony can be a witness

Agreed - I don't even want anyone like that in the wedding. I guess it's a new trend to go without, but that's just how I feel. I'd prefer my friends and family to witness the ceremony rather than stand up there like scarecrows lol. But I think people just need to bare witness to you signing the marriage certificate if I'm not mistaken.

Nope not needed! We’re not having a bridal party either but our two closest friends are going to sign.

If mom is insisting you have a "special" witness but you don't want to choose an MOH/best man, maybe consider having a special relative/close family friend (such as a godparent) as your witness. That might appease mom without having to designate an MOH/best man.
