No more Costco Cakes

Beth, on June 29, 2020 at 3:44 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16

Anyone else feeling the range as Costco just up and stops selling sheet cake?! On a scale of 1 to you are tacky - how bad would it be to not have cake at our wedding reception?

They only stopped selling half sheet cakes. They still have full sheets, rounds, etc. If you need a half sheet, Sam's, Walmart, and several other grocers still sell them.

I wouldn’t say tacky, but it’s definitely something I’d be disappointed with as a guest. I always look forward to the wedding cake!

You don't have to have a cake at your wedding! and you can also try other stores like walmart, sams club etc that sell bakery cakes

There is no rule that you must have cake at your wedding! I've been to plenty of weddings with cupcakes instead of wedding cake and they were delicious. You can also try other grocery stores and bakeries in the area

Costco cakes are delicious, so I would just get a different size/shape than a half sheet. But also (as everyone says) you don't have to have cake, but I would definitely serve some type of dessert at your reception.

    Agreed.

A cake is traditional but not required. I love cake, but as long as there was a delicious alternative, I would be happy.
Serve whatever you want and can afford.

Nope they don’t sell a full sheet cake. They replaced the only previous large option for 1/2 sheet cakes (feeds 48) with the smaller rounds, which some reviews say aren’t the same taste??
    I totally second your anger!!

We didn't have cake - we don't like cake. Instead we had pies and doughnuts. People loved it Smiley smile

If you don't have cake, I would still offer some type of other dessert. We had a candy bar as well as cake. We had considered doing a s'mores bar as well, but I figured cake and candy bar were enough. My brother had regular cake and ice cream cake and my brother-in-law had donuts. You could have cookies, brownies, cupcakes, ice cream, etc.

As long as you have some kind of dessert and sweet stuff you are good! I’ve been to weddings with pie and another had a candy bar! No cake at either and I don’t think anyone cared a bit! Any sort of sugary goodness and you’ll be fine!

You definitely don't have to have a cake! You can pick any other dessert and it'll be just as good.

I don't think most people really care about eating the cake. Some people like to see the cake cutting, but you can always just get a small ceremonial cake for that. As long as there's something sweet for people to eat before they leave, you should be fine. Also, I love that you posed this question as, "on a scale of 1 to you are a tacky b*!"

Absolutely not TACKY!! it's your wedding day and you get to choose. I say there are so many other options to opting out of a cake. But there is also mini desserts and things like that, which could make it so much more affordable as wellSmiley smile Are you choosing to not want a cake because Costco doesn't carry half sheet cakes? Like many have said you can still get a full sheet depending on your guest count or Sam's has amazing customizing flavors you can choose from ! Best of luck girly and congratulationsSmiley ring
