Has anyone ever dealt with this situation before? We don't want to drag them through the mud or be hyperbolic, just want to be honest about our experience and save other people the headache.

All the better. Then the people are left wondering why there was no statement that the venue was decent. That is not your fault. (I added text to the earlier post you may have missed seeing.)

You could state you asked about the contract with that clause and you would like to have a positive follow-up on it if possible.

Bride and grooms have a special day and it shouldn't go sideways after spending lots of money and not taking reslonsility for basically ruining a day. I beliebe others should be informed for that for it not to happen to others. And yes I saw. Thank you!!

If you already paid a deposit without signing the contract, you can mention you posted the question about their contract and ask could they remove that phrase ahead of signing it?

That could be doubly important if the vendor customarily takes a deposit before signing a contract. They would be trying to hook people into accepting the terms because of the money invested already.
