“No one was upset by ____”

Michelle, on March 5, 2022 at 1:44 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 3
This statement comes up a lot in reference to everything, and I’m always curious who tells the couple getting married if the guests don’t like something. It’s considered a major faux pas to complain about anything to the hosts of a party at the party or afterwards if they were upset or offended by anything. But that doesn’t stop guests from talking to each other away from the couple when they don’t agree or were offended. Because no one tells the couple directly if something controversial or expected among the family/social circle is done or not done, then is that what leads the couple to believe their guests were in love with the choice? Therefore “no one was upset”?

I didn't hear any "gossips" about my wedding. Maybe that's because I was obviously really stresses out by the fact that SOMETHING can be not fully appreciated by someone, people knew that, so they were gentle. I had a simple wedding with no controvertial choices, so I hoped it'll be OK for most of the people.

However, one of my cousins complained openly about some stuff and I hear it personnally, as she didn't really hide it. In addition, it's a person I invited just to be polite, someone I haven't seen for like 15 years... First, she said to my mum that she wasn't happy with her meat. Then the next day during brunch she was talking to every one approaching the buffet NOT to take eggs because SHE REALLY DOESN'T recommend it, it tastes funny... Then she wasn't happy that I payed her a hotel room - she insisted on sleeping on our couch, she really wanted to stay in our flat... Well, if someone was offended, that would be me...

I’ve never once thought about this. Is this really a thing? Honestly we have spent soooo much money to ensure our guest are eating and drinking well and are benefitting from an aesthetically designed environment. If they complain that’s on them not us as a couple. We have done our due diligence to ensure that our guest will be happy.

100% agree. No matter how much time, thought, effort and money one puts in to hosting an event, there is going to be SOMEBODY who isn't happy. I say it's their problem and to try and shrug off the negativity.
