No open flame! :-(

sandra, on November 2, 2014 at 8:41 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

What "candles" options are out there? My dream venue does not allow open flame :-( I have searched around but don't see many options and I pictured uplighting with candles everywhere, but bye bye vision...and smores bar!. My vision was just the submerged flowers with led light inside on the bottom and the floating candle on top and votives candles around it. Please give me some ideas :-)

Does your venue allow flames if they are inside lanterns? A lot of people have done that. And of course, the LED lights are still okay.

There are electric tea lights - and LEDs. You'll be fine.

LEDs are great but I have yet to find any for cheap (I don't know what your budget is but it was out of my tiny one). We aren't allowed to have any sort of real candles so I am planning on using centerpieces that don't require any candles as pretty as they are. I may use LEDs if I can find em for cheap.

2d bride- no they don't allow any type of real candle at all

Karen- yeah those electric ones are not cute to me, change of plans!

Margaret- My budget? let's just say as much diy as i can get away with, so very little. I can have any type of real candle in my place either. Maybe just the clear rocks with a few submersible lights and flowers? Need to look at different ideas now :-) Thanks ladies

We used wax coated led tea lights from restoration hardware-- they even flicker like real candles.

I'm using submersible tea lights - with clear, red, and orange marbles/beads to cover the LED's. They weren't that expensive - a pack of 10 on amazon was $16 - (and they occasionally go on sale). (I had wanted the floating candle too - and ran into the same issue. So now it's mirrors at bases (cheap at Ikea for a 4 pack), vases with the leds/marbles and floating flowers instead.)

We are using LED tealights, and LED floating candles as well, our coordinator said they look great (I was afraid it would look fake). Amazon have some great deals.

100 for about $40.00, You can get 72 frosted votive holders for around the same price. I'm sure you can get them cheaper somewhere, but we need to ship ours since we are coming to Hawaii for our wedding from Australia, so Amazon Prime saves us a fortune in shipping.

HAHA! omg Monana thank you! I'm all scattered brained lately didn't even notice that one! Thank you all for the info. Barbara thanks for the link, definitely check them out too. I'll look in amazon too, the 1 place I haven't checked! Rob that is a good deal, I was looking in websites where 72 votives are $100!! I'll have to look up the led floating candles, I'm also concerned it would look fake but how exciting your wedding in Hawaii!! :-)

I had this same exact issue. I bought really pretty candelabras and fancy candles and they told me I couldn't use it unless it was in a candle holder. So I went to Michael's craft store and bought glass candle holders and hot glued them to the candelabra and boom problem solved lol. Maybe you can buy a taller glass and not fill it up all the way so the candle isn't right on top.

I used this company to buy flameless candles:

    http://glowproducts.com/products/HDFLI4

This way, I can sell them after the wedding and I don't have to worry about them going out during the event or starting an unwanted fire on the tables! These were the cheapest I found and I stalked their FB page until they posted a 20% off coupon (they always have 10% off). They are covered in real wax so it feels like a regular candle and looks better than most fake candles. The customer service is great, too! I ordered 48 and 1 came with a big gash in the wax and two didn't work. They immediately refunded me the money. They would have sent out new ones but they were out of stock. I chose the slowest shipping and got them within a week. The shipping is high, but once you add that into the cost, it's still the cheapest I've found for flameless candles. Here are pictures of what they look like:

My venue is the same way. My mom hunted on amazon and found some really cheap submersible led tea lights. I am using them in my flower vases dipped in glitter.
