No Wedding Arch?

Cindy, on March 7, 2011 at 1:38 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15

I am having an outdoor wedding ceremony overlooking the golf course. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a wedding arch that will only been seen for 20 minutes. My wedding venue coordinator suggested using columns that way they could be taken inside and used as reception decor. I was just wondering what anyone else did at their outdoor ceremony. Feel free to share your pictures! Smiley smile

That's basically what we did, without the columns because of the wind. We then re purposed the arrangements for the guest book table and other places.

I don't think an arch is necessary! I think the column idea is great! It defines the area where you will be standing and can double as decor in your reception!

We are having an outdoor ceremony on the lawn of a historic mansion. I orginally wanted an arch, but I don't want to pay that much and have the hassle of getting it there. I just opted to go without. We will be standing in front of some aspen trees and I doubt anyone will miss the arch!

I'm curious to see what everyone did, we're also having ours outside at a country club, I don't want to spend too much on decorations. The picture below is off my venue, one previous bride did that type of decoration, it looks really nice but I still think it's too much. Thanks for posting this

Debi I was just trying to decide on a arch as well . We are having a beach ceremony and I really wanted the arch but it's prety expensive just to have it for about 20 mins like you said. So I've decide to do without the arch and just do rose petals for the aisle, aisle runner, and sashes for the chairs. Colums should be good enough for you to use.

Did you check if your venue provides it? Our venue provides the arch for free. I'd check w/your venue first

Our venue does not provide an arch, which is why she suggested the columns. We plan to have a table outside for our sand ceremony, and a some type of podium for our reader.

We bought a garden arch from Hobby Lobby for $90 and are spraying it white. After the wedding, my mom is going to put it in her yard and use it for grapes. Two uses Smiley smile

If you want an arch, you might go for something like this, which is only $33. But if you don't want one, you can skip it.

For my beach weddings, the florist usually puts an arrangement at the front top of the arch. After the ceremony, the arrangement can be taken off and put on a table at the reception.

You can see if they can bring a table with tablecloth out to serve as an altar. You can have your unity candle/sand items on it and some flowers that can then be taken in and used for your head table or other decor...

We bought one at Lowe's on clearance at the end of the season last year. But it is your wedding and you can do anything you want. They also have cheap ones at Michaels and AC Moore

I don't know what I would do with one if I bought one, so if I decided to do one I would want to rent one. Since I know we will have a small table for our sand ceremony, maybe I can have an arrangement put on that which can be brought inside for reception decor. Thanks for the idea Konichiwa!

Debi with the arch they have at Hobby Lobby it's about $20 and it's white. You could drape it with tulle to decorate it and have a flower arrangement made and be creative with it. That's is something I would possibly do if I were having an outdoor wedding here in the states. But then you would have to check with your vendor on their rules as far as bringing outside decorations. Some places are picky about that.
