Non Alcoholic Groomsmen Gifts

Amber, on October 10, 2017 at 11:18 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

My FBIL is going to be the best man. He is a recovering alcoholic and has been sober for years. He doesn't have an issue with being around people drinking so alcohol around him isn't an issue but it seems like every groomsmen gift idea I see involves alcohol. Can anyone give me some gift ideas that they're using or have already used that don't include alcohol?

Tickets to a show, game or event that he's interested in. Yeti can be used for more than alcohol, FH uses his for coffee. Anything hobby related. A jersey or nice sportswear for a favorite team. A cooler if you think he'd use it. FH some gifts in the past like a money clip, tie clip, cuff links, etc. because he likes dressing up and is in sales.

A watch would be nice if he's into those- does he have hobbies?

My husbands best man is a recovering alcoholic so we had to think outside of the box too, he ended up getting him a chair (think outdoor camping type chair) with an attached cooler with his name on it and a gift card to bass pro shop, he's very into fishing so he loved it. I would just buy him a gift as if it was his bday, that's basically what we did and it worked great

Groomsmen gifts do not have to be a package deal, just like BM gifts. Buy him a thoughtful gift chosen for his interests/taste. What does he like to do? Sports, reading, the arts, travel, cooking?

The other groomsmen are drinkers. Would it be tacky if they got something that included alcohol? I was assuming everyone gets the same or similar gifts. My FBIL is into football, NASCAR and hiking so I can use some of these ideas you guys have suggested

We got our groomsmen leather and canvas weekender bags (they all travel at times) with their initials embroidered on them. We also got them each a personalized gift that was specific to them. We didn't do alcohol-specific gifts simply because none of them (including my husband) are big drinkers, so it was easy enough to decide.

We got a really nice shoe kit for one of them, a leather man for another, and a nice hanging travel toiletry kit for one of them.

I'm planning on giving out groomsmen special grinders or something pot related since they all smoke alot . But my advice is to give them something they will love and use .. don't necessarily look groomsman gifts ..

We did the same basic thing for all of ours but tailored based on their interests. So, everybody got a nice duffel bag, a t-shirt, a mug/glass of some sort, and something specific to them. My BIL was a groomsman; he's a Lutheran pastor and brand-new dad, so he got the duffel, a "New SuperDad" t-shirt, a beer stein, and a communion chalice. H's son doesn't drink, so he got the duffel, a Legend of Zelda t-shirt, a nice water bottle, and a dog bowl for his new puppy.

We had the same problem with our group. We ended up ordering really awesome Invicta watches for all the guys, each on getting a different one specific to their own style. They loved them!

We just shopped individually for them. Some were into video game things, music (album), and sports. None of them got alcohol or alcohol-related things. My BMs are a different story though. Lol

We did personalized knives for 3 of the guys. One is under 21 so we didn't want to get an alcohol related gift and the other 2 don't really drink.

FH did engraved Yeti Mugs for groomsmen, because my brother doesn't drink. They turned out really nicely, and if you go on the Yeti site, it is not extra to engrave (which I think is amazing).
