Non Cheesy Engagement Pics

Dayna, on November 12, 2013 at 11:59 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

Any suggestions for non cheesy fall engagement pics? Location is a windmill park near a river. Any prop ideas, poses that aren't awkward? We booked the photographer for an hour. There could be snow as it's in 2 weeks. Thank you!!

I think if you really want to avoid the cheese, avoid props and posing all together. I know there a few photographers out there who really just want you to do what you would normally do and they will capture it unobtrusively.

This is a really good example:

Though, if you have snow, building a snow man would be super cute!!

I agree with Barbara. If you use props it will probably be cheesy. Although if it snows, a snowy picnic could be cute. Just an idea.

Props don't have to be cheesy if you know how to use them. We used big metal signs for one of our props, and for another, we used a blanket in a basket.

Laugh, have a good time. Some of the natural shots are the best, and not all posed shots come off as cheesy or unnatural either. You just have to know how your body language works together. Even if the photographer tells you to stand there, you can do certain things (like put your head on his shoulder) to make it seem less posed.

    Good luck!

Just have fun! when you are having fun and taking candid pics it comes out much better. Sometimes the poses "feel" cheesy but they come out really cute! I looked up "engagement photo poses" a day or two before my session to get an idea of the look I was going for

Hopefully your photographer has experience already taking the kind of portraits you are seeking. That was a big thing for me because there are a lot of photographers who I think while can take decent candids were really lacking when it came to portraits.

I know Pintrest has several blogs that show how photographers can pose you so it still feels natural. Here is an example of one:

We also skipped the props, some of them can be cute but just wasn't the look we were going for.

Thank you all! We like the idea of keeping it natural. The only prop we thought would be good is something to showcase our wedding date. I just feel heavy PDA is best left out of the pictures that everyone will see, so we're trying to find cute, natural ideas.

Our photographer literally sat us down and said talk while I set my camera up and would start clicking while we talked. Hold hands and walk... She'd click while we were walking. Act as if you're doing normal things... Ignore the camera. I think ours turned out really good.
