Non-cheesy rustic theme?

Caytlyn, on April 8, 2018 at 11:49 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12

FW and I both grew up in pretty rural areas. She grew up on a farm and that's where her family still lives. I know that "rustic" weddings have been super popular for a while now, but it truly is the style that most closely represents us. I am going for a "rustic elegant" theme, with some vintage touches. I want to avoid the cheesy Pinterest rustic decor and just go for things that are more natural and pretty. What "rustic" decorations do you guys see and just can't help but roll your eyes at? For example, I think mason jars are just way overdone. Let me know what you guys think so I know what to avoid!

“Inspirational” quotes painted on wood in a frilly font (or several different fonts). It just feels so manufactured.

I hated burlap for a long time, but during my time working at a fabric store and cutting it for days on end during the summer made me loathe it. Burlap and mason jars make my eyes roll hard enough to pop out and roll away.

Also, making everything "country." And by "country," I mean crossing the line between redneck and true country. Wearing the cowboy hats, boots, buckles, and fancy rodeo wear looks nice and I appreciate the look if the couple truly are country. But then you get the rednecks that think country is burlap, mason jars, camo/orange everything (disclaimer, I mean the ones that go overboard, not those that tastefully add it in), total lack of ettiqutte, antler everything, and are flat out trying too hard. Also known as most of the weddings in my hometown lol!

I think this is nice and rustic adding Cotton as tall centerpiece would look good too

I also hate burlap. I told everyone helping with out wedding that if I saw burlap or the mention of burlap, I would slap them. LOL! We are dong a similar theme using a lot of metals and lace though. Attached our center piece designs.

Agreed that mason jars are way overdone.

I can definitely see myself rolling my eyes at too many wooden signs, burlap/lace everywhere, and those wood slab/mason jar candle center-pieces.

That being said, any of these things in moderation can be nice. I personally don't remember decor at weddings as much as I remember the food, drinks and party atmosphere.

Burlap, burlap and lace...ugh. I live in Nevada and it has been SO overdone it isn't even funny. They should just truck the décor to the next wedding...they are all the same anymore. Cowboy boots with the dress (or Converse with the dress). Mason jars everything. Mason jar glasses, wine glasses, candle holders. Round wood cut tree centerpieces and centerpiece holders. All in all...burlap is the worst...no burlap.
