Non-diamond engagement rings? O.o

I can't help but LOVE this ring, but I'm afraid everyone is going to be a little judgmental and think my (nearly) fiance is just cheap. We haven't gotten a ring yet, although we're planning our wedding and consider ourselves sudo-engaged . He wants to be able to plan something big and "surprise"...

We haven't gotten a ring yet, although we're planning our wedding and consider ourselves sudo-engaged Smiley xd. He wants to be able to plan something big and "surprise" me, and I know he's been saving for a while.

My thing is, I feel like we'd be getting a traditional ring mainly to please tradition. *sigh

Anyways, any of you guys have non-traditional rings? Any gemstones?

What do you think of my dream ring? (pssssst, only $220!!) Morganite just feels so... me. Smiley smile

Moissanite ring here! Radiant cut stone in a halo setting. I was adamant about not wanting a diamond and FH listened. I think he also liked that it was easy on the pockets. My ring with the matching wedding band was less than $2k. Both are just over 2 carats. I love my ring and I wouldn't want anything else.

Morganite is SUPER pretty and so sparkly. You should totally get this ring!

I was going back and forth when we glanced at rings. The one I loved was black gold with pink sapphires, (more magenta colored). it was a gorgeous ring. However, due to a lot of logistics, it wasn't a good idea and he instead, got me the diamond I have now. I love it and wouldn't change it for the world, but definitely do what makes you happy and what you love.

I have a friend who also recently got engaged and she now sports a gorgeous sapphire and yellow gold ring.

I really like yours and you should definitely tune out any body else who says it isn't an "engagement ring". They are what ever you both want them to be.

There will always be people who think that and Im sure think that of mine but oh well. I like yours! Mine is amethyst and my wedding ring, that is not a band is citrine. I picked out both and they were both inexpensive. If we need to replace it a looong time from now, oh well lol. Get what you love! Amethyst represents our birthdays, Feb 27 &28 and plus I just fell in love with it. And the citrine one is my favorite color. I picked our the setting and stone.

    GET WHAT YOU WANT!!!

i always wanted a pearl ring ( my family nicknamed me the pearl and it stuck...so a pearl sing seemed fitting). when my fiance went to purchase a ring, the owner apparently told him " no...no one wants a pearl ring. girls want diamonds" psh! not every girl wants a diamond!

I have a non traditional ring and I love it!! I say follow your heart and let others follow tradition if they so choose. My FH did a wonderful job picking out my ring, all I wanted was an amethyst.

I LOVEEE everybody's gemstone rings! I think they are just so unique.

Mel, your wedding ring is AMAZING! <3

I showed fh the morganite rings and he loves it too! Looks like this girl is going to get herself a pretty little morganite e-ring! Smiley laugh

And with the price being so much better... I think this means I'm gong to get my "official" proposal sooner! (His parents were in a car accident a while back and he's been devoting a lot of his income into helping them out, isn't he a sweetie? They're okay btw, just going through a rough patch.)

Mine is a white sapphire surrounded by diamonds. It sparkles blue instead of rainbow I get complimented on it all the time. The setting is vintage from the 20's. My biggest problem was getting a band that would fit next to the pear and marquis since it's an odd shape. I <3 my ring though!

Thanks, I got it customized from a shop on etsy actually. I was really skeptical. After reading reviews and messaging back and forth, etc I went for it. Im so happy I did! Its inexpensive and I couldnt find anything else I loved. Or I liked others and reviews made Me run scared lol and they were pearl rings.

And he is sweet! I wish ya'll nothing but happiness and strength through this rough patch

I have a half ruby, half diamond heart with diamond accents. It works since it is both our birthstones in one ring. We did go really traditional with the promise ring he gave me, it is a diamond solitaire-really pretty but I like my engagement ring more.

And to be even more non-traditional, he wears an engagement ring as well..and we're such big nerds that his ring has "Its dangerous to go alone" engraved on the inside and -as you can see- min has 'take me" engraved on the inside.

FH opted for diamonds, but I didn't require diamonds. It was his choice.

If people think its cheap, that's their problem. If you think its beautiful is all that matters. You're the one whose going to wear it.

Mine is diamond but not those huge solitaires. Instead they're a row of small diamonds set flush to the surface of the ring. Also got it online at

Juno Jewelry instead of those huge jewelry stores at the mall.

So totally late on this post lol.

Morganite is not too soft, it is the same hardness as an emerald on the MOHS scale. I have one and everyone is so impressed with the ring, it is so unique! I agree with the previous poster, diamonds is just a really great marketing campaign. But it's crazy to spend $10,000 on a ring! My ring is 2.3 carats and a diamond of its size and quality would easily cost $10,000 or more. I say go with whatever ring you love (and if that's a diamond then that's fine too!).

I just made a post about this, I really need to remember to do a search before I make a thread! (Still learning the ropes of this site)
